Nicknamed the Natural State with good reason, Arkansas’s dazzling array of landscapes includes colorful woodland, natural springs and breathtaking mountains.

The state of Arkansas is most famous for the stunning, diverse countryside. Drive or hike your way through its soaring, forested peaks or roam across acres of rolling farmland to experience the region’s astonishing natural beauty. Don’t forget, though, that the cities of the “Natural State” are equally enticing, offering historical attractions, family-friendly museums and myriad ways to relax.

Visit the Museum of Native American History in the city of Bentonville for cultural and artistic artifacts from 14,000 years of the state’s history. For different angles on the story of Arkansas, head to sites such as Historic Washington State Park, which features a recreated pioneer town, and Pea Ridge, the location of a huge Civil War battle.

Before heading into the wild landscapes of Arkansas, visit its lively capital city, Little Rock. Explore the Old State House Museum to see how the state used to be governed or take a guided tour of the Capitol Building to see the political heart of Arkansas today. Bring your family to the Museum of Discovery, an attraction with interactive exhibits to help children engage with science.

Unwind in the town of Hot Springs, located in the middle of a national park famed for its naturally heated water. Soak up the minerals in the Quapaw Baths and Spa or visit Crystal Spring, which is located next to the slick, modern Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Head out into Arkansas’s alluring wilderness. Put on your hiking boots and trek into the truly wild Ozark Mountains. Canoe down glimmering rivers through dramatic canyons or bring your fishing tackle for a serene day of angling. Recreation centers throughout the area offer activities ranging from waterfall tours to rock climbing and zip lining.

One of the easiest ways to get to Arkansas is by flying to Little Rock, yet driving into the Natural State offers many pleasures. Hit one of the twisting roads that wind through the Ozarks at any time of year for spectacular sights. Come in fall for dramatic foliage, winter for cozy log cabins, spring for blossoms and summer for long days spent exploring.
