I appreciated the upgrade to a cottage with kitchen, due to the restaurant being closed. I enjoyed being able to cook my own meals.

It’s a cute standalone house with paved parking. Golf course is within walking distance of house and other properties and has a paved walkway so it makes for a nice walk if not golfing. Infloor heating made upstairs toasty warm. Small electric stove on main floor but we didn’t use it. Two full baths - one on main floor, other on second floor. Well stocked with towels, face cloths. Both bedrooms are upstairs. Property is well lit at night so you can’t miss it driving by.

My wife and I cannot begin to express our appreciation for the treatment we received at The Lakes in the past few days. Kevin Piercey, the GM, and Ann went above and beyond to help us in a time of family loss. They accommodated us so that we could check in early on our way to Sydney for a family service and ensured we had everything we needed in one of their beautifully-appointed, spacious chalets. We stayed there two weeks ago for another family matter and they were just as pleasant and welcoming. Having stayed on a number of occasions in the past few years to enjoy the beautifully groomed and scenic golf course (it should be rated in Score Golf's top 100 in Canada) and Founder's Restaurant, it is nice to see consistently high performance adding to one's enjoyment. We would recommend The Lakes to anyone who wants to receive good old Cape Breton hospitality at a resort that offers wonderful golf, skiing, and views of the Bras d'Or Lakes. The folks there make it that much more enjoyable. Thank you, Kevin and Ann!

There was no small fridge, no smart tv (only cable), very bare rooms, shower didn’t work on the tub. The walls are paper thin, you can hear other peoples texts coming through in the next room. Wouldn’t stay again, needs way more upgrades. Awful.

The first day had to be cancelled because there was no power. When called the staff informed that the restaurant is closed. I got frozen food to last me but the room did not have a mini fridge or a microwave. I thought there may be a common microwave somewhere and there is none… when asked where there is a microwave the receptionist said it was only available in a chalet, and that would be a $100 upgrade fee… if the basic facilities like a microwave are not available, why is the place even open and gf season with no restaurants or food services available. The closest place to get anything is 30 Kms in every direction. I feel like I have been ripped off.

Hello Neelima - Sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay. The restaurant closure is listed on Expedia as well as the amenities that are available in your room. Most of our guests who do not stay in one of our chalets, which come equipped with a full kitchen, opt to take the 15 to 20 minute drive into Sydney to dine when our restaurant is closed. One of our staff will be reaching out right away to help you get your dinner warmed up.

Clean room, beautiful grounds, nice people, good food! A few amenities were missing. At a facility that doesn’t have a breakfast option, there was no fridge or microwave in our room. Restaurant opens at 11am. On the king sized bed we only had 2 average pillows. There is a keurig in the room, but with powder creamer and sugar and no decaf options. We also had to request more toilet paper as we were given a roll with 1/4 of the amount left and 0 extras. Little things that we got around, my husband found a Tim’s near by (20 mins round trip), and the hotel service was speedy. I just would not call this a “5 star resort” because of the basic amenities missing. That being said, I would still stay there again! My husband loved the course, beautifully maintained, challenging, and he highly recommends a cart due to the hills.

The room was spacious but in need of an update. The bed sheets were older and the beds featured cloth headboards which was kind of gross. No microwave or fridge were offered in the hotel rooms (I believe these are offered in the cottages) and no breakfast either. Overall only average value. Only saving grace is there are not many affordable options in the area.

There was no room heating whole night and we slept with jackets on . Nobody at the desk after hours The receptionist just left the building right after giving me the key . We literally lost the way to room from the parking twice . Was horrible experience last night
