Great location & service, bad condition of hotel

I can't complain about the service, since everyone we dealt with at the hotel was excellent and hospitable. I feel that we received great service from all the staff members that we interacted with. The location is SUPERB. You are within a 3 minute walk of the downtown area, and the port where you arrive on the ferry. You can easily walk over from the ferry carrying luggage without a problem. Amazing location within steps of restaurants shops and the water. These are the positives, onto the negative which I consider a big one. The condition of this hotel is pretty awful. We went the week before Memorial Day, right before rates spike. I would be totally angry had I paid $200+ for this property during peak season since the condition of the Inn is deplorable. It needs MANY serious renovations. A lot of the charm of Block Island is the older homes which retain character and I understand that, so not expecting hotel-chain standards. This place takes it one step too far. Exposed piping in the bathroom, bathroom floors that badly need new tile, extremely old bedding and rugs,etc. The rooms and bathroom have this terrible constant smell of an extremely old home that's in bad need of a deep cleaning. The place looks like a Grandma's home that hasn't been maintained or fixed up in 50+ years. Only a few fixes would be needed to spruce this place up. Also, be aware that it's a SHARED bathroom situation.

Charming Victorian hotel with great service!

If you want a charming Victorian hotel with great service, this is it! Family owned and run, Gothic Inn staff take you in like family. Every room is different and has it's own character. If you have trouble with stairs, stay downstairs because there is a good flight of steps to access the third floor. Third floor rooms have beautiful views of the ocean. Unless you are in the suite of apartments you will share a bathroom with others. And yes! There are no TV's in the bedrooms, but there is so much to do on Block Island, who wants to watch TV? For those who must, there a TV and 2 sofas in the breakfast room. This is a Victorian Hotel, after all! Breakfast is delicious and filling and the hotel is immaculate. No air conditioning but between the ceiling fan and ocean breeze, we were very comfortable. The hotel provides beach towels and on checkout day they kept our bags until we left for our ferry in the evening. Loved it and have already booked for next year.

The good: Great location, good breakfast. The bad: No one was there to welcome us and show us to our room, or at any time during our stay. But the Main problem was the price for the value: tiny room with no air and no private bathroom for an exorbitant Basically the price of a high-end for the quality of a youth But it’s Block Island: everything is outrageously expensive there.

I liked the fact that the price was the lowest on the internet. I disliked the fact that I never saw any one on the staff until the next morning, and I had to call a number to ask a question from someone who was obviously at some sort of social event.

Good enough!

Great location! Walking distance to everything!! The bed is old and creaky and the bedding older and stained. Appears neat and clean, but just worn. Breakfast is like a Motel 6...Needs a redo! The staff were really nice!!

I was in town for a wedding. The accommodations were perfect for my visit, just a bit loud because it is situated right in the middle of the bustle and nightlife. I was worried about the shared bathroom, but it worked out well. Breakfast was better than standard continental.

The Gothic Inn is quaint and historic. It isn't extremely fancy and that's what I love about it. It feels like a home! the staff are very nice as well, and there is free breakfast.

Very nice quaint rooms. Easy walk from ferry. Only issue was heat in room didn’t work. Plenty of blankets though. Very pricey for what was offered though.

Conveniently located, a bit worn out but clean. Having to share a bathroom wasn’t too much of an inconvenience, and a continental breakfast is provided.

Ok for a short stay

Owner and asst were nice... we were the only guests during the week. Owner ha Evy’s our pick of available rooms. Baths are shared. Since we were the only ones there, we didn’t have the breakfast options that would be there post Memorial Day. We had to make our own coffee one morning. No one there all night or long. But the place is clean and neat. Bedroom is very small but ok for 2. A common room for tv. Free WiFi, free off road parking and very close to ferry all positives. Price was good.

The location was good, but the staff was almost non-existent- they gave us a key and never told us about the included breakfast. There was never anyone at the desk- I had to call the main number to get an answer about breakfast. The room was small and quite run down. The bathroom fixtures were all rusty, the shower door didn’t close properly, although it was relatively clean. Even when we left there was no one at the desk to leave the key with- hopefully they got it- we just left it behind their desk. The continental breakfast was ok, but the room was tiny and there were bees swarming inside.

Great location in town. Very convenient. Shared bathroom with 4 other rooms. No TV or internet. Decent breakfast. Good for old school, drop your bags and go, sleep only location. Staff and other guest were very nice. Very communal comfortable feel
