Not what expected

Posted Nov 29, 2015
We booked an around the world themed room via expedia and when we arrived we were given an executive suite as they stated they had changed that room and its no longer themed. Were told by management that at that price we would not have been given a themed room (even though got discount by using expedia). We had trouble actually reaching the room we were in as building works were happening and the hallways were a safety hazzard that we had to walk by everyday. The lady on the reception was lovely though and the bar staff were nice.

decent country hotel

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: ladies at reception well great. ever so helpful. a lot of old features still all over the hotel made it interesting to walk around
Cons: floors very creaky. walls thin and in some rooms there was no wifi
Location: tricky to find down very small roads. great curry restaurant attached to hotel. you probably have to drive though to get to nearby restaurants or pubs
Quiet location. Good looking building but needs a bunch of work done on it to bring it up to standard. seems like there are a lot of wedding receptions at the hotel so there is a lot of noise associated with them. I was there when it was hot and you had to keep window open to get some air in room. this however meant letting all the noise of guests outside, who were drinking, into the room. not great if you are trying to sleep

It's close to the M4 with road signs to find the hotel - very useful as it'll be iddifuclt otherwise. The hotel was pretty good - it's has been recently refurbished, but I don't perosnally mind - it certainly doesn't look run down. It's a very grand hotel with lots of nice features. Breakfast was good also.

Visit to wales

Pros: Beautiful surroundings and a huge bed. Great bath as well
Cons: House keeping service
Location: Good access to Cardiff and Gower Peninsula
A beautiful country house hotel though looking a bit tired. The room was very comfortable (a huge bed), though perhaps the hiusekeeping service could have been a bit more meticulous. (A quick hoover to scoop up crumbs etc might have been nice to go with straightening the bed - though it was a Bank Holiday weekend). Our room had a great bath, but it took over 20 mins. to fill. Pressure very low. It had an excellent Indian restaurant at the back which served a splendid buffet meal (at weekends) for £10. Very good value, and it was interesting that there were several Indian families in attendance - always a good sign!! One disappointment was that reception did not mention that we could claim 'Nectar' points on our bill - and we do wonder if we can claim them retrospectively. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. Very reasonable terms

Dirty dirty hotel & not been cleaned for months.

Posted Aug 27, 2012
The standard double room was dirty & dust everywhere - stains from someone elses toothpaste tube on bathroom shelf & bathroom light was full of dust - the light was only about 5 1/2 foot up the wall & as i am over 6 foot tall it was easy to see it had not been cleaned for a while. The toilet seat looked like it had paint overspray all over it (why i don't know) the corners of the bathroom skirting boards where all brown/black with grime. I did not shower as i felt i would have been grubbier afterwards - felt itchy all night. The restaurant bar was awful - didn't sell half the drinks we wanted. The bar staff had to keep going out to get stuff, the place seemed like it was from a third world - the bar top was worn out and dirty. The hotel guest bar was un-manned for ages, people had to go looking for staff & while in the lounge we sat down facing the fire place to see all the wall wood paneling coated in dust then under a table to the right we could see the table base had what looked like 2 years worth of dust on it - you could see where peoples feet had rubbed some of the dust away. The main stairway carpet had a previous guests finger print marks in the dust that lay on top of it . While in the hotel i did not see a cleaner anywhere in the hotel - what a surprise. I fully appreciate this is an old hotel - but there is no excuse for dirt & dust or even just a lick of paint would make a difference. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE IT IS VERY GRUBBY.
