The best area to stay in Calvi Vecchia is within the walls of the cittadella (citadel) for an experience rich in history, or along the waterfront for convenient access to the marina and beaches.

The cittadella is the historic heart of Calvi Vecchia, perched on a hill overlooking the bay. This well-preserved medieval fortress offers narrow, winding cobblestone streets, ancient stone buildings, and panoramic views of the sea and surrounding landscape. It's home to landmarks like the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Governor's Palace, providing a journey back in time. Couples will find the romantic setting and quiet evenings within the citadel walls particularly appealing.

For those who prefer to be closer to the water and enjoy easy access to dining and boat excursions, the area around the marina is an excellent choice. This part of Calvi Vecchia offers a lively promenade lined with restaurants and cafes, and it's just a short walk to the main beaches.

For most visitors, the best time to go to Calvi Vecchia is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, or September. These months offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed experience.

During May and early June, the temperatures are comfortable, typically ranging from the mid-60s to high 70s Fahrenheit, making it ideal for exploring the historic streets of Calvi Vecchia and enjoying the coastal paths. The Mediterranean flora is in full bloom, adding to the area's natural beauty. This period is excellent for couples who prefer a tranquil getaway before the peak summer rush.

September also provides excellent conditions, with warm sea temperatures still suitable for swimming and average air temperatures in the low to mid-80s Fahrenheit. The summer crowds have thinned out, allowing for easier access to popular attractions and a more peaceful dining experience at waterfront restaurants. This month is particularly good for travelers looking for a balance of outdoor activities and cultural exploration without the intense heat of mid-summer.

While July and August offer the warmest weather and peak beach season, they also bring the largest crowds and highest prices.
