Alive with art, history and politics, Wellington is not only the capital of New Zealand, but also home to New Zealand's theater and film industry, many fascinating museums and galleries and stunning ballets and orchestras. Cheap flights to Wellington are relatively easy to find throughout the majority of the year as culture-hungry tourists know that this is a gem that is not to be missed.
The peak season in Wellington starts in December and lasts through the beginning of March. This is an excellent time to go as the weather is warm and temperate. In addition to the beautiful climate, the city also hosts a number of exciting events such as the Wellington Fringe Festival, which starts at the beginning of March. Additionally, this is a great to visit if you are a nature lover, as the pleasant weather makes a long hike through Mount Victoria a treat.
Mid-March through May make up the shoulder season in Wellington. These months are usually on the cool side, which means that there is a definite lull in tourism. Because of this lull, flights to Wellington tend to be inexpensive. Provided you do not mind a bit of chilly weather and rain, this is an excellent time to see this lovely city, as the foliage is vibrant, and many local festivals are still in full swing.
Wellington's off season falls from July to August. For those willing to brave the sometimes bracing temperatures, this is a great time to visit and explore one of the many indoor events and destinations, like the International Film Festival and the Embassy Theater.
Wellington International Airport (WLG)
Distance: 8km east from Wellington
The Airport Flyer Bus is one of the most inexpensive methods of ground transport from the airport. You can also take advantage of the door-to-door shuttle services, or use one of the many taxis; however, these options can be a little bit pricier. Although it is easy to walk or bike around the city, the airport also offers car rentals.

It was so easy to travel in New Zealand with Air New Zealand. Great service.
It was a short flight but everything went smoothly and according to my expectations.
Customer service was excellent at counter!
The flight attendants were spectacular in their service, food was above average, free drinks were very welcoming.
awful music before and after the flight.
Was a sweet experience
Last sector (MEL-WLG) was a codeshare with Qantas (actually Jetconnect) and was awful. Narrow seats, minimal legroom, no entertainment, food so-so at best, and for some reason Qantas treats Emirates passengers as second-class citizens - no web check in, no seat selection on their sectors, etc. Pretty poor codeshare partner behaviour, I will never use an Emirates service again that includes a Qantas sector.Emirates are great, Qantas... not so much.
Seats to close otherwise very good service.
I was not happy with the cost of the flight. I booked the flight in Australia thinking that I was booking it with Expedia Australia therefore Australian dollars. But to my dismay after I had paid the fare, I discovered that the fare was charged in USA dollars. The information provided did not display the cost of a country, hence my assumption of Australia dollars. So next time I will think twice about booking with Expedia from outside of USA.
My wife's gluten free meal was delivered and it was delicious. Thank you so much!
