The Golden Eagle Vacation Rental, a 3 minute walk to Timberline Ski Slopes

10/10 Excellent
"We had a wonderful time at the Golden Eagle. There were many spaces to gather between the main house, the attached carriage house, the large yard, and the large deck on the first and second story. The surrounding area was also beautiful. A few notes about the place: the were manual A/C units which works well, no fire pit, each of us had good cell service, the water is potable, the nearest grocery store is about 20 minutes away in Davis. Some of the many nearby activities: Blackwater falls (20 mins.), Seneca Rocks (40 mins.), Canaan Valley Resort (8 mins.). Canaan Valley has many summer and winter activities that are good for large groups."

Black Bear Resort - Serene Cabin Retreat | Views, Deck & Resort Access

10/10 Excellent
"Our unit was very clean. The host responded to my questions within 24 hours. The unit does not have air conditioning but it did have several fans. The area had a nice breeze most of the time so we opened the windows (yes they had screens) to keep the unit cool. It was very peaceful even though there was a bunch of teenagers ( they were very respectful and well mannered kids) attending a camp. It is a great location to stay if you want to explore Canaan Valley. The towns of Davis and Thomas are just minutes away. Blackwater Falls and it's many hiking trails is also very close. Canaan Valley resort park is also close enough to go and take advantage their hiking trails. We spent three full days here and didn't make a dent in the many trails that are in the area to explore. The kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. We used the outside grill every evening. There is a washer and dryer. I do wish that the unit had a tub to soak in after hiking miles every day. The shower was nice but not very helpful for sore muscles. It is a beautiful unit in a beautiful area. I hope to stay here again next year. My old phone died so unfortunately I can't share any pictures of the lovely cabin we stayed in."

Garagemahal! Trails and waterfalls right out the door, forested and quiet.

10/10 Excellent
"The Garagemahal is wonderful! The location cannot be beat. Chip and Laurie were helpful and friendly hosts, fixing a small thing very quickly when we reached out. Even though their house is nearby, they provided plenty of space and privacy and made us feel very welcome to enjoy the home and property. The home was clean, comfortable, and spacious, equipped with useful essentials. The deck is huge - great for outdoor meals and relaxing with a view of the large yard and forest that leads to mountain and valley trails, or the dark sky (we saw 5 shooting stars on our last night!). There's a firepit and access to miles of trails, including one that starts at the edge of the yard and runs uphill along a creek with several very pretty small waterfalls within the first half mile or so. The location is amazing, right in Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge (the popular Freeland Boardwalk Trail is on the way - listen and look there for frogs, beavers, birds, and balsam fir trees), very close to Canaan Valley Resort State Park, and not too far to Dolly Sods Wilderness, Davis and Blackwater Falls State Park, and more. We couldn't imagine a better place to stay for our outdoorsy vacation week!"
