About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Detour Village , freighter views , cozy

Adorable little cottage near Lake Huron, with views of St. Marys River and Lake Huron.

We think "Mayberry Cottage", is perfect and hope you will too.

What it's lacking in modern aesthetics, it makes up for in charm. From the banging
front screen door, to the people watching from the front porch and listening to the church bells chime. There are views of freighters passing by right outside the windows.
This will be a relaxing and tranquil oasis for you.

It's a slower pace , there is no "wi fi" but there are cards to play , movies to watch and books to read. Along with board games and puzzles.

We are located smack dab in the middle of the cute as can be village of Detour. Walk to the market, visit one of the restaurants or bars or launch your boat right across the street. If it's Jeeping you love, the Drummond Island ferry is right around the corner . I've heard the fishing is amazing , as are the beautiful beaches just a short drive away .

Bike around the village, walk to the botanical gardens or walk down to the ferry dock to see the car ferry and freighter watch. Rent a boat slip at the beautiful marina and check out the many islands , just a short boat ride away. Or listen to live music at the marina park on most weekends .

Detour Village is a gem we discovered three years ago and want to share it with others .

All that being said, our cottage is just that. It's clean and neat and oh so adorable but it is not a condo. please remember that when renting. It has a beautiful glassed in front porch where you can enjoy your morning coffee. freighters are often seen right outside the windows and sand cranes wander across the road.

If you visit I bet you will want to return . Mayberry Cottage sleeps 7 comfortably. There is a sleeping loft upstairs with three twin beds, a full bed downstairs and a pull out sofa bed in living room.

Fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, electric stove and keruig coffee pot . Towels and linens are included.

One bath, no Smoking, small dogs allowed.

Short but sweet
The property was bright and cheery, well stocked, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, due to an emergency, we were only in the cottage for a couple of hours before we had to leave. The host was very understanding and immediately gave us a full refund. I would highly recommend this vacation home.

Cozy. Bright and cheery, nice decor, very relaxing. Comfortable beds, kitchen and bathrooms stocked with more than you could ever expect. Local population very friendly, welcoming, and forthcoming with information. Negatives- Upstairs very warm for 60 degree weather. Could benefit from a ceiling fan. No stairwell lighting. Television antenna needs some work. We had a very nice few days, and would do it again.

A Sibling Reconnection
This was a warm, welcoming home for our sibling get together. Siblings and family gathered for a memorial time for our brother and for my husband. The kitchen was supplied with much more than we expected, as was the bathroom and bedrooms. Such a beautiful change from a motel. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Limestones, quaint comfort, and wonderful silence
As our first real resting vacation, Mayberry cottage was clean, cozy and full of surprises. From the full bar set, equipped with copper cups for Moscow Mules, to extra little soaps and thoughtful pastime activities, we loved our stay and our rest. Michelle, our host was right in from check in to check out and even went above and beyond to help us with extra requests. From the church bell tolling across the street, to the quiet walks along Lake Huron, I would highly recommend this property for sleep, Sabbath, and rejuvenation of the spirit.

Cute cottage with more amenities than advertised. There was a washer/dryer combo and a Keurig machine. Cottage is loaded with knick-knacks; for crusty male fishermen it was difficult to find a coffee cup without a cutesy saying! Very convenient location within walking distance of everything.

We had a fabulous stay in De Tour Village. The house is perfectly located in the middle of town, walking distance to everything. The owner has thought of everything, we didn’t want for anything! Saturday mornings there is a local farmers market, yum. The ferry is just down the street and we loved hearing fog horn when docking. We took a day trip to Drummond island and rode the ferry, definitely a must. For dinner we tried out Dinghys for pizza, delish, and so convenient we walked to pick it up. We can’t wait to book our next trip to De Tour and we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

June Couples Retreat
Our friend group hadn’t gotten the opportunity to see each for over a year due to covid. This adorable little cottage and Drummond Island was our post vaccination celebration. We had all the accommodations needed for our 4 day getaway from the city. We cooked everyday and packed coolers for our adventures on the islands. The ferry is only a quick 5mins away. All of the locals were super pleasant. We were able to kayak, yacht, explore all of the nature preserves and botanical gardens, and even made the off roading trek to Fossil Ledge. Michelle was more than polite and communicative. The space is more than big enough for larger families or 3 couples like ourselves. We are already talking about our next visit! Thanks for having us!

Clean, quiet, cozy and wonderful location !!!
What a wonderful stay we had ! Property is centrally located right in town , yet quiet and peaceful. Within walking distance or a short bike ride to anywhere you might need to go. The residence was clean, comfortable and presentable. You can tell the host has put a lot of thought into this process. The backyard has a nice little fire pit and plenty of parking for a truck towing a 16 ft trailer. The neighborhood is friendly and safe. If we ever find ourselves in the village of Detour again , this would be where we would stay.
