“Very unique. It's a step back in time. Don't expect modern resort but you will get friendly authentic service provided by local people who bend over backwards to fulfill your needs and interests. Dufur is a very small old rural historical town in, what some would call, the middle of nowhere. If you want seclusion and enjoy country walks or bike rides and meeting really interesting people the Balch Hotel is for you as it was for us. The people really are fantastic. “It was perfect for the 3 of us with plenty of parking for boat and trucks. Everything we needed was there as described for us. Of course..we had a problem with unlocking the door but this is not uncommon for us. But Wendy was right there within minutes to help us out..Thank you Wendy!!We would recommend this property for anyone wanting to fish and of course Mary Hill Winery was fun to explore as well”

“The rooms are clean and tidy. The bed is comfortable and the appliances are functioning well. Conveniently located next to a gasoline station and there's several options for food. ”

“The motel is nice, clean and the staff is very nice. The location is not so great since it is across the street from a truck stop. You are about 100 yards from the river but can't see it due to the truck stop. The motel is a good stop off place if you are driving.”
