Tahoe City is lovely, reminiscent of a village on a lake in the Swiss Alps (It could hardly get more beautiful or charming), and is also a short drive to Palisades at Tahoe.
The Pepper Tree Inn is in the middle of town, walking distance to a the biking/walking path along the Lake, a wonderful lakeside public park and beach, a Safeway supermarket, numerous restaurants, ski/snowboard shops, and sits on a hill overlooking the lake. So I give the setting and location an A .
It offers the best value for price in town (and would be more so if I hadn’t had to pay a $40 pet cleaning fee for one night for our poodle who doesn’t shed).
On the downside, the appliances were dated (especially microwave, which required fiddling with the power cord to get it to work), but better than another place in TC we stayed that charged more and had no microwaves in the rooms or lobby at all.
We were on the first floor and could hear every step of our upstairs neighbors, and they apparently had rambunctious kids (which I understand, as we do as well), who sounded like a herd of elephants stampeding above us. That’s just the nature of the building due to its age and construction.
The front desk staff is very nice and helpful, but they are only on the property 3-10 pm.
Overall, I would choose to stay here again if I returned to Tahoe City, and would recommend it to budget conscious travelers.
