We arrived at the Novotel Monte-Carlo just after midnight on Saturday evening. Since arriving, we were aware of major construction work immediately next to the hotel. Construction activity took place throughout the day, every day, including the construction lift operating and the large crane/turning equipment being used. Although the noise was not as severe on the first few days, it became extremely disruptive, with continuous loud drilling from approximately 8:30am until 1:00pm, in addition to the ongoing construction activity. The construction was immediately adjacent to the hotel and clearly visible from the hotel and pool area. It seriously affected our enjoyment of the holiday. We were not informed before booking that major construction work was taking place immediately next to the hotel. Had we known, we would have seriously reconsidered booking this property. During our stay, I reported the issue to reception. They took my email address and telephone number and told me they would pass the complaint to the duty manager. Expedia reviewed our case and we have exhausted all available options with the hotel property and they are no further compensations or refund options that they can offer, The insist that since the constructions is taking place on a neighbouring property and is outside of the hotel's control, the hotel has advised that they are unable to approve any refund or compensation, and that they notify only if the construction is inside their property,

Beautiful old property within the walls of a beautiful old town. Comfy beds robes free cold drinks and fresh sweets left in the room. I felt spoiled.

It was HOT HOT HOT and the air conditioning was not doing its job so after paying so much money I had to wake up in the middle of the night and ask as to what is the alternative they said the mechanic will come tomorrow. What do I do during the night. Finally they offered a small little dinky fan. Helped us fall asleep that night, the next day the technician showed up or not I don't know, the result did not change, still needed a fan the next day. Not in a 5 star hotel for sure. I think the standards in France are very different of calculating 5 stars than the rest of the world. Knowing that I would have paid $200 more for the other 5 star which I found out is a real 5 star.
