“We were there to celebrate my oldest child's graduation. It was a nice trip and not far from the Mary Hill Stonehenge and museum. I loved the view from our room! It was so nice to be able to sit on the deck and watch the river and look at the dam! So many types of birds to watch as well! The staff were amazing and friendly! Unfortunately, there is no elevator and my husband has a bad knee, but he managed to hobble his way up the stairs. That was our fault for not requesting a bottom floor……

“This hotel is great! I've stayed in several hotels in The Dalles and this one is by far the best! The front desk staff were so helpful and friendly. The room was clean and well maintained. I'll be staying here again for sure. ”

“Very unique. It's a step back in time. Don't expect modern resort but you will get friendly authentic service provided by local people who bend over backwards to fulfill your needs and interests. Dufur is a very small old rural historical town in, what some would call, the middle of nowhere. If you want seclusion and enjoy country walks or bike rides and meeting really interesting people the Balch Hotel is for you as it was for us. The people really are fantastic. Debr helped us with a sticky……

“The views were amazing! So quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay and if we're ever back thar way, we would stay again. The breakfast was amazing. Bed was great. Shower and bathroom amenities were fantastic ”

“Interesting experience. There is no on-site staff, but the building is in excellent (restored) condition. You let yourself in with the door code and then you’re on your own. The on-site restaurant is not operating, so we drove a couple miles for dinner. We made breakfast from what was on site. Thankfully there was no noise from the railroad outside. We’ll be back.”
