Maui Sunset Resort is one of the premiere resorts in all of Kihei. The grounds are landscaped with golf course style grass, bright orange flowering plants, and tall tropical swaying palms overhead. Our condo is ground level, so you can walk out on the patio and be only steps away from the large pool and hot tub. Tennis courts are also nearby for those that want to play a round of tennis with the Pacific ocean in the background. And for the children or the kid in you, there are two shuffleboard courts close by. When you are ready for grilling an evening meal, there are outdoor BBQ grills to use.
Our condo, on the ground floor is ideally located on the oceanfront end of the resort, you are a 1 min walk from the patio to Sugar Beach, and you can enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean from within the condo. This unit is also our largest condo on Maui at nearly 1600 sq ft with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Completely remodeled in 2019, the entire condo has high end finishes from floor to ceiling. It comes fully furnished to meet all of your vacation needs. Enjoy dinner at the large eat-in island inside and your evening beverage on the patio.
You will also enjoy the plush, comfortable beds, free WIFI, and Smart TV’s for an evening movie.
Alongside Maui Sunset is the longest beach on Maui, Sugar Beach. With a nearly 5 miles stretch of continuous sand, Sugar Beach is a great beach for a morning run or a romantic evening walk. In the mornings, the snorkeling off of Sugar Beach is one of the best kept secrets in all of Maui. Only 50-100 yards off shore you can see colorful coral, marine life, and if you’re lucky, the famous Maui Hunu (turtle). Also experience the famous tradition of outrigger canoeing off of Sugar Beach with the Kihei Canoe Club., where you can take part in an invigorating circuit off shore. If windsurfing is on your agenda, the afternoons are when you will see more of the water sports enthusiasts off of Sugar Beach.
Within walking distance of the condo are restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores, while Costco and the airport are a short 20 min drive away. Kihei is also a great central location for any of your day trips around the island. Kaanapali is a 40 min drive North and Wailea is a 10 min drive South.

The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The host communication was good. The kitchen was will equipped but only salt and pepper for spices and some of the draws did not work. The door lock was finicky and sometimes we had to punch in code three times but never failed us. Location was nice close to beach, pool and sunsets. The beach is public so there are a lot of people walking past the condo.

The unit worked very nicely for our family with young kids. The big grass out front was great for running around and playing off the lanai. Nice big kitchen. Easy beach access though a bit rocky. We loved being able to see the ocean and the whales from the lanai. Good stay!

This is a great unit for families traveling with kids. The unit is on the ground floor right next to the pool and so it provides easy access to the outdoors all day long, which is a game changer when you have kids. Rooms were spacious and beds comfortable, also great having three bathrooms and three bedrooms, everyone had their own space. Kitchen was well stocked, but as others noted some of the drawers were broken but once that was figured out we didn't try to open them again. The Maui Sunset is a great condo complex, even though its "older" the grounds are impeccably maintained and the everything is clean. The access to the beach was great for the kids and it was also easy to walk up and down. This place is called Maui Sunset for a reason, and let me tell you we never missed one! Would definitely recommend for families.

So close

The good: location is excellent, close to the beach, tennis courts, pool, very well maintained open grassy areas for kids to play. Area is excellent, close to many stores, restaurants, other beaches. Parking was easy, check in was a breeze. The condo staff was excellent, especially during the tsunami evacuation that occurred during our stay. Layout was great!The not so good: honestly felt a little catfished by this condo. We arrived and very quickly noticed the curtains water logged and dated, sliding glass door we had to clean and grease so it would open and shut, missing one of the couches pictured. The internet didn’t work for over half our trip. When we reached out to the owner, they came across to me … a little annoyed.. but did get fixed. As at least another person stated, the kitchen is poorly equipped, no batteries in some of the remotes, knives were brutally dull, at least three of the drawers kept falling out. It may seem silly but I was annoyed the condo came with maybe a set of eight or ten cutlery? Which meant daily dishwashing after each meal. I feel like they set the condo up and haven’t done much upkeep. The condo sits next to the tennis courts and there are no rackets, there was just one extra blanket for a three room condo. There were no laundry pods, few very cleaning supplies, no vacuum. I’ll remember most of this trip the amount of time I spent sweeping since there was no easy way to clean the floors. A few minor changes and it would shine even more.

Beautiful condo! We enjoyed our stay. Short walk to the beach and saw turtles on our walks. Kitchen is equipped with pans, plates, bowls, casserole dishes. It’s clean and well kept. 5 of us stayed for 7 nights. We had to do laundry to keep up with towels. They do have beach chairs but 2 of the 5 were broken. Not the owners fault. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub on the property. If you book this prepare to fall in love with the place.

Safe, Clean and Family Friendly

Overall, the place was wonderful. It was just the four of us in the end—my husband and I, along with our two young kids, ages 5 and 7. We had originally booked the larger unit (3 bedroom) because Grandpa was supposed to join us, and it would have been absolutely perfect with him there.The pros: Being able to walk right out onto the lawn. We loved having a king bed in the primary bedroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and the AC units all worked great. The laundry also functioned perfectly. There was an umbrella available to use, there were some fun kid activities for the kids (football, volleyball/soccer). The location is great for morning walks on the beach and the grass area is fabulous. There was always enough parking as well. Pool was clean.The cons (though they wouldn’t stop us from coming back): The drapes mentioned in previous reviews were still a bit of a hassle. Luckily, I brought clothes pins and was able to make it work. The screen door still sticks, and one of the showers off the bunk room is just okay, but it functions fine. There were five chairs, but only four were usable, and to be honest, they’re probably nearing the end of their lifespan. Two of the rooms have slider doors and there is no additional lock mechanism, such as a simple pvc pipe or anything. With young kids and being on the bottom floor that was a concern. Random notes worth mentioning: I looked up nearby restaurants before our arrival, and while it said they were walkable, there really aren't any

Perfect Maui trip with large group

A fabulous trip in the best unit in the whole complex in my opinion if you stay at my Sunset, you’ve got to get on the ground floor. We had the best time I’d say the unit was a little less clean than I had expected but other than that, everything was great we absolutely loved our trip.

Great experience!

Our family of 7 (ages 18-80) enjoyed 9 days in this lovely condo. The location of this corner unit is perfect. It’s a 30 second walk to the ocean or the pool. It’s located within the Maui Sunset resort. There were many free activities (beach chairs, tennis, shuffle board, putting green) and items available to rent (paddle boards, canoes). Overall a great experience!

Great location and very nice property but

Several minor items that would have made the stay Excellent. Sliding glass door needs attention. We waxed and got all the sand out of the tracks. No can opener. Ice maker worked but would not dispense ice. No batteries in most remotes. Shower curtain in master needs replacing. Knives are very dull (as in would not cut anything easily) These are all inexpensive items that one would expect to work when paying the price they charge. It is a very nice condo and worked well for our family of 7. The only thing that might cost a bit is a safe in the master. Most condos these days do have a safe. We never felt safe leaving our valuables in the room.I did send the hosts this list but have never heard back from them.

Great location, great amenities, would stay here again!

My family of five, including three teenagers, thoroughly enjoyed our stay for just over a week. Sleeping spaces were as described, beds were comfortable and clean. Darker curtains would have been nice in the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, but all rooms had ceiling fans and great ACs. One bathroom per bedroom was very appreciated. Living area was comfortable with large kitchen, lots of dishes and utensils (knives need sharpening, hard to cut our pineapple!). Prime Video and Netflix available on the TV. In-suite washer and dryer were great. We didn't use the beach chairs as they were a little too well-loved, but the patio furniture looked brand new and was amazing for morning coffees. The ground floor unit is fantastic for access to the pool and tennis courts. We brought pickleball paddles and had no issues getting onto the tennis courts, or took advantage of the short walk down the beach to the busier pickleball courts. Note that if you bring kids, there is no "throwing" (balls, frisbees, etc) in the pool...this is awesome if you're looking for a relaxing suntanning session, but our 12 year old son hated it. The owners were prompt in answering questions, and allowed us a late checkout (for a fee) to accommodate our late flight. We would stay here again, Mahalo for a wonderful week!

The stay was great, but washer was not in working condition for our 6 day stay, and the place is ok but a little dated. Very clean and perfect corner for the beach and everything.We also had to buy toilet paper because they only provided 6 rolls for 7 people for 6 days. Hard time with the front door locking also, with key pad on it.

Family stay in central Maui

This was the ideal place for our family for 7 nights. Ground floor was so nice to walk directly into the grass just steps away from the coast where people gather to watch the sunset every night. The condo itself is family friendly with a well stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, grills and a pool. This was our first time on Maui and we’d definitely stay here again.

Total misrepresentation of condo condition Vs. reality…

The ad for this condo was a complete misrepresentation of the reality of how dirty, poorly maintained, and sparsely stocked it actually was…. Let me start by saying the condo looked nothing like the pictures and was absolutely filthy. None of us went barefoot inside because our feet would get dirty within minutes of walking around inside, Socks would turn brown within minutes. We tried for hours to get the washing machine to work – it filled with water but never would drain again, we tried all the cycles, nothing worked. When we texted the owner we got no response until the next day, when they said “go to the laundromat and then send us the receipts”! We thought they would rush a repairman out to help us. No way. And how do you get receipts at a laundromat?? The Master Bedroom was even worse. The drapes would not close completely so people walking by could see in, we could never be undressed except in the bathroom. Not to mention the light streaming in at dawn. Hope you’re an early riser. Lastly, the mattress in the master befroom was hard as a rock. The sliders leading out to the lawn area are old and hard to open and close. There were no extra blankets, sheets, no extras whatsoever. It is clear the owners really don’t care about your experience in your condo. The fixtures, furniture, TV’s, beds, all seem to be the cheapest available. This was not about making it a nice place to stay. I doubt any one ever goes back for a second time.

Daughter's 16th birthday celebration

Really nice property, friendly staff and people. Super close to a fairy usable beach, warer is shallow with all of it being rock for about 200 yards out except the beach. Rental of equipment is easy and less expensive than other beach areas. Most everything was clean and ready for use, found some dirty dishes in the cabinets, and refrigerator water and ice dispenser not working, they do have a Britta water filter but don't know if the filter is clean. Overall decent stay, tough driving everywhere. Lots of stores close by.

Amazing location !

We loved this location! The exterior of the property isn’t glamorous but our condo unit was awesome and the ocean side of the property is amazing. It’s magical - this unit is on the end and private. The lawn is meticulous and ir is so awesome to just walk to the water and enjoy the sunset or serene mornings! It’s calming and not crowded. It feels like a slice of heaven. We loved that this location wasn’t in the area of high end resorts. It’s more authentic but close to go to any other area of the island. We enjoyed the property too with all it has to offer, tennis etc. Our family consisted of 5 young adult kids 17-22 & this was perfect for them! The inside was clean and spacious and worked great for our families needs! We highly recommend this location and unit!
