Hike the spectacular Holzarté footbridge suspended above a deep gorge, then explore ancient shepherds' huts along mountain trails. Traditional Basque cuisine awaits in village restaurants where locals share stories about the nearby Kakuetta Canyon in Sainte-Engrâce.
Bruno and Chantal were consummate hosts. I loved my room with its view of the garden, a decor accented with vintage radios and alarm clocks, a spacious modern bathroom and adjacent WC. A practical command of French is helpful, as the coversations surrounding breakfast, cocktail ( choice of aperitif, beer and wine) and dinner (not included, but highly recommended as Chantal is an excellent cook. Be sure to request some of her Basque specialties. Everything is homemade.

Old historic home, run by a charming old lady.
It belonged to Pierre Laclède, founder of Saint Louis (Missouri). It has remained in the family ever since.
Excellent (continental) breakfast included in the very low price.
The village of Bedous is charming and there are at least three quite decent restaurants.

Excellent for a overnight stay in between journey to other areas. Need to get the wi-fi for guests, even if offering for a fee! Great to have the cafe and bar and all the French magazines readily available.
