Disappointing start, but improved with a room move
The check-in experience wasn’t great. I had called ahead specifically to request a quiet room, but was initially allocated a room above the restaurant extractor fans, with a blind rather than curtains. Thankfully, the staff were helpful and offered to move me the following day, which made a big difference. The garden room was much quieter and a much better experience.
The breakfast was good, but I was very disappointed with the restaurant service. Some local friends wanted to join me for dinner on the Saturday evening. Despite the restaurant appearing very quiet, we were told it was fully booked and unable to accommodate us. With a party of five, we ended up having to sit in the bar and eat with the food on our laps, which really wasn’t ideal. I believe we had 2 children in the party it was more about that.
It was particularly disappointing as my friends live only five minutes away and could potentially have become regular customers. Unfortunately, this experience didn’t give them the best impression of the hotel.
On a positive note, the swimming pool was good and the facilities were clean and well maintained.
Overall, my recommendation would be to invest in upgrading the bedrooms and improving the food and beverage offering. At this price point, I would expect the quality of the rooms and F&B experience to reflect the nightly rate.
