Pool closed, any food you had to get from sister hotel. Tried to get ice for my drink I had but at 22:20 was told bar closed so said just need ice but apparently no ice and was advised to go to sister hotel! Hotel currently undergoing renovation I believe and our room was in nice condition and bed comfortable and for what you can pay ( only paid £42 for 1 night) and had a double room with part sea view I think it’s definitely worth the money. Would consider staying again but if you can afford more then worth staying at sister hotel The Carlton as pool and restaurant open.

Amazing old building, wonderful period and eclectic decor. Breakfasts are the best ever - huge selection and all equally delicious (and generously sized!) Staff and especially Manager Kerry were super helpful and charming. Dinners and lunches were also very good. Service was spotty and a bit haphazard. Internet was not consistent and you had to log in at least three times a day! Room (‘character’) was OK - a bit dark and dingy given the small window and dark paint. On the small side. The bathroom was OK but a bit neglected and dusty. Everything - furniture, beams, skirting boards, beading, seemed to be painted with a dark paint that hadn’t been properly applied so it is sticky and peeling. Definitely that needs to be remedied as it makes everything look tired and tatty. More attention needs to be given to cleaning as there was dust on every ledge, skirting board, and cobwebs in corners and in windows! everywhere in the hotel.
