Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Okavango Delta?
The best areas to stay in the Okavango Delta are generally within the private concessions, offering exclusive wildlife viewing and a more intimate experience.

For travelers seeking an unparalleled wildlife encounter, the private concessions like Moremi Game Reserve's eastern and central areas are ideal. These areas are known for their abundant wildlife, including the "Big Five," and offer both water-based and land-based safari activities. You can find camps situated along permanent waterways or within drier Mopane forests, providing diverse experiences. This area is superb for couples and small groups who prioritize exceptional game viewing and a sense of remoteness.

Families traveling with older children often find the areas bordering Moremi Game Reserve, such as Khwai Community Concession, to be a good fit. These concessions offer a similar high-quality safari experience but often have a wider range of camp styles, including some that are more family-friendly. The wildlife viewing is still exceptional, and activities like guided walks and mokoro excursions are readily available.
When is the best time to go to Okavango Delta?
The best time to go to the Okavango Delta, North is during the dry season, specifically from May to October.

This period is ideal for wildlife viewing. As the Delta waters rise due to seasonal floods from the Angolan highlands, animals congregate around the permanent water sources. The vegetation is sparser, making it easier to spot wildlife. This time of year offers pleasant, sunny days with cooler nights, creating comfortable conditions for safaris.

Couples looking for a quintessential safari experience will find this period perfect. The reduced vegetation and concentrated wildlife offer exceptional photographic opportunities and more frequent sightings of larger mammals like elephants, lions, and leopards. It's also an excellent time for water-based activities like mokoro (traditional canoe) excursions, allowing for close-up views of aquatic life and birds.

For those planning a luxurious and focused wildlife trip, the dry season maximizes your chances of encountering a wide array of animals in their natural habitat.
