Bed was slightly uncomfortable being given hard pillows but also foot end higher than head end, felt giddy. Bathroom mirror too high - not able to see oneself. Apart from that, nice quiet location, very secure , excellent hot and cold water and plenty of toiletries supplied.

Initially was assigned a very small room in the eaves, not the “classic double” as advertised. Staff were very helpful and allowed me to upgrade for a reasonable price. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant menu very good, with excellent service throughout. The house itself is impressive but rooms and common areas are frankly knackered. Greasy marks around switches, peeling, chipped wallpaper and broken furniture throughout. I paid to upgrade to the “royal suite”, in order to get a desk and mirror, but it was just a very large room, not a suite, and with none of the expected facilities you would get with a suite (fridge, minibar, writing materials etc). Grounds are brilliant however and the shortcomings of the building were made up by the excellent food and high standard of customer service.
