PERFECT location
It was supposed to be me and my sister but her plans changed so my hubby came with me. It was a PERFECT location to spend 3 days at Pungo looking for bears and wildlife. Before we have stayed IN Washington and had to drive an hour each way roughly. Now we could go out as many times as we wanted to throughout the day and then return to rest at the house and use the bathroom and eat etc....... There is a Great Horned Owl that perches each night across the street on trees and poles and came in the yard at least once or twice each night. The house was comfortable and very clean. I have already made reservations for a few times next year. The little corner store makes breakfast and lunches. Simply limited menu but worked out well. I would recommend. The house had all the things needed in the kitchen. I always bring my Keurig and it broke. I was happy to find that the house has a coffee maker AND all the supplies (filters, cream, sugar, coffee). They always had a bunch of cooking spices, and all the laundry soap, dishwasher tabs, dishsodp, hand soap and shampoo that we needed. Sheets and towels were high quality. We needed for nothing while there. Perfect stay!!!

We absolutely love this home. It’s located on a preserve that offers wonderful photography in the winter (birds) and spring (bears) and many other species of animals/birds throughout the year. The home has everything you would want/need - TV, cable, internet, well supplied, outdoor seating and on the preserve. We will be back !!

Can't Wait for Our Next Visit
This is our third stay on Leah's property, and we're already thinking about when we can go again. On two sides are huge farm fields, and the property is on the very edge of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. We've explored this area in spring, summer and fall, and each time found a different profile of critters. Bears, turtles, birds, etc., etc.. Whenever I write a review of this place I leave out a lot, because we'd like to keep it all to ourselves. Thank you Leah (and family). We hope to see you soon. r&d

We have nothing but good to say about this property ! It was clean, roomy, and had every thing we needed in the kitchen. And the location was perfect for us as we are into nature and photography. The owner was very responsive and helpful. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we already booked our next visit. If you decide to rent this home, you will not be disappointed.

What a great place!
Such an interesting building (maybe old farmhouse?), wonderfully renovated. We would love to learn more about the building, maybe in the property description. Can’t beat the location next to the wildlife refuge! We went to bed hearing the Great Horned Owl young and woke up to the Bobwhites and saw more wildlife, too, including bears. Also, the homemade blueberry jam was so tasty and appreciated. We would love to go back soon and, if possible, would love to meet our wonderful host then.

An upgrade for us
This is a great location for access to the wildlife refuge. While staying here we saw 21 separate black bears and 72 species of birds. The property is in mint condition and the views from the patio across the farm fields are pretty great. Everything exceeded our expectations.

Back Again!
This was our second stay at Pocosin Ridge. First time was only two and a half months ago and this time was just as enjoyable! We spent one day in the Refuge and saw a black bear with two cubs along with countless turtles in the canals. Spent another day at Nags Head, which was only about an hour and 20 minute drive. Pocosin Ridge is such a great escape for us!

Wonderful escape!
We spent a long weekend at this lovely property and had the best time! There was about 5-6 inches of snow during the first night of our stay. Leah and her husband came by to clean off the patio and to make sure we were doing okay. They were incredibly nice and friendly. The house was bright, wonderfully equipped, the area was very quiet with endless views, and the beds were comfortable. The house was very close to several lakes and Pettigrew State Park. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked it for another long weekend!!

Wonderful home base to explore Pocosin wildlife refuge
This is a small older home beautifully restored and updated. It sits on endless acres of flat inner coastal farmland with a huge open sky. The water tastes great. The wifi is strong. The house is easy to move into. The kitchen is very carefully equipped for cooking and serving. All appliances are new. The bathroom has a new tub/shower with exceptional water pressure and on demand hot water. We thought the beds were very comfortable, supportive to aging backs, and the nights are wonderfully quiet. The setting of Pocosin Ridge is remarkable. The Pungo Lake section of the wildlife refuge is right across the road. We came in mid-December hoping to see migrating waterfowl. It was an endless discovery process with tundra swans and snow geese on the move throughout the day, shifting to new areas of the lake and flying out to feed on nearby fields. There was surround sound background music of birds on the water and the call of birds in flight. The refuge is alive and vibrant with bears, deer, river otters, herons, yellow bellied slider turtles, small song birds, raccoons...the list goes on. I know we barely scratched the surface. We were outside for hours each day and looked forward to evenings at our borrowed home. Our week at Pocosin Ridge was a much needed internal reset. We hope to return.

Peaceful and tranquil
We arrived late and Leah had left the back porch light on for us. Communicating with her about our stay and our needs were outstanding. She truly cared that we had everything we needed and we couldn't have asked for a more tranquil and peaceful home to stay in. Everything we could have possibly wanted or needed was provided and Leah was just a phone call away if we needed anything. The home was so clean and everything was new and beautiful. Sheveven provided things for my grandkids to play with. They were very happy playing soccer out in this large yard with a ball that Leah provided. Coffee, sugar, creamer was provided and I had everything I needed! Don't hesitate to stay in this warm and inviting home. The sunrises on the porch are spectacular!
