The Duomo is beautiful. The scene around it in the plaza is a bit of a madhouse with so many tourists. We went in December. I cannot imagine this place in the summer. Be sure to get tickets in advance (to go into the Duomo) for busy time of year.

You can walk it if you are in a mood for a long walk, but not recommended in the summer heat. The #9, 12, and 27 trams will take you there for 2 euros for a 90 minute ticket or 7 euros for all day.
