We had a day tour and saw all the highlights before boarding our cruise ship. Super easy embarkation.
Cabs are plentiful here- ask if a meter is used before getting in and getting an estimate if no meter is used.
I GOT PICKPOCKETED ON THE TRAIN TO PIRAEUS! NEVER EVER TAKE THE TRAINS! TAKE TAXIS.
Get to Piraeus early -- it's a big port, and where you get your tickets printed may be across the port from where your ferry leaves. Bring an umbrella to Greece, for sun on the islands and rain on the mainland. While waiting for our ferry at Piraeus, we got caught in a rainstorm that turned into a hailstorm, and the indoor waiting areas and overhangs filled up quickly with everyone else waiting for their ferries.
