Super stay, staff are incredible and room was gorgeous

I travel a lot for work and this is only the second time I have ever done a review. If you're going to spend £350+ a night for a room, you'll want much better. I booked two rooms on this private visit, almost £800 was way too much for what we actually got. The two ladies on reception for check-in/check-out were lovely, couldn't fault them, that's worth saying up front. For the younger girls in the bar/breakfast area, serving was just an inconvenience. Later, there were trays of glasses/crockery on two tables in the bar, which staff walked past and made no attempt to move to allow patrons to use them. Our room was a huge disappointment. I have never been in such a small hotel room. But for the high ceiling it would have been really claustrophobic. There was a corner of the ceiling with paper peeling, scuff marks on one wall where people had obviously struggled with bags. The door into the bathroom had a chunk missing from it where it sticks, the bathroom itself was truly awful, so old. The cistern was noisy when used, the pressure in the over-bath shower was absolutely pitiful and there was a little mould on the grout above the controls. The shower curtain was a nuisance because the space was so tight. I was so disappointed I took photographs. On leaving, reception was busy with breakfast traffic going through so I didn't stop to speak about it, but I should have. Our room was not to the standard being advertised and definitely not worthy of the price charged.

Loved the style of the hotel. Stunning decor and very comfortable beds. Staff were also delightful and well informed. The pool was a really decent size - though in contrast to the rest of the hotel the pool area is very grey and uninteresting. Also no jacuzzi. Food and drink very good and the dining room is beautiful. We had a spa suite which was very spacious and comfortable BUT be warned - it is a very long walk from these to the main hotel. I counted walking through 8 fire doors before getting to the spa and from there I think there were another 3 or 4 before reaching the lift! For me there were a few niggles about the room. 1. No magnifying shaving/makeup mirror in the bathroom. I have bad eyesight so couldn’t see to put makeup on 2. Weirdly there was no plug on the sideboard for plugging in the kettle. We had to plug it in on the floor! (Room designer needs a planning lesson) 3. I would have liked a bath as well as shower. I think in a suite you might expect both. But overall a really lovely hotel and I would definitely go back
