Salt Lake City Vacation Packages
Salt Lake City, or SLC, is Utah’s capital, located between Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch mountains. SLC has been a famous winter sports destination since it hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. When the snow melts, explore the rugged mountain trails and lake shores by foot or bike. Visit various indoor attractions, such as the Salt Lake Public Library Main Building and Natural History Museum of Utah.
Mormon pioneers founded Salt Lake City in 1847, when the area was still part of Mexico. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (popularly known as the Mormon Church) is headquartered here. Pick up a self-guided tour at the one of the visitor centers and visit the Museum of Church History and Art, the Italian Renaissance-style Joseph Smith Memorial Building or walk around the neo-Gothic Salt Lake Temple on Temple Square.
While SLC is known for its Mormon connections, the city also has plenty of non-Church-related attractions, including bars, clubs and restaurants that serve alcohol. Clark Planetarium, Living Planet Aquarium and the Utah Museum of Fine Art are other popular places to visit.
Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts will appreciate the powdery snow on the Wasatch Range. Experience nature a little closer to downtown at the Red Butte Garden and Arboretum. Utah Lake State Park is ideal for fishing, while nearby Timpanogos Cave National Monument offers a fascinating hiking experience. Floating on the Great Salt Lake is a must in summer.
Downtown is best explored by using the UTA public transport network, which has a Free Fare Zone. Shuttles run to and from the ski resorts during winter. To venture farther, it’s best to rent a car.
Salt Lake City is much more than a ski haven. People of all backgrounds come here to explore nature, art centers and museums all year-round.
