Manila, the national capital, is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the south of San Rafael.

While it may be tempting to just chill out when visiting San Rafael, keep in mind that the surrounding region's treasure-trove of natural sights, cities and towns are never more than a day trip away. San Isidro, 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the south, and San Fernando, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the east of San Rafael are also waiting to be discovered.

While you are on vacation in San Rafael, why don't you see Quezon City. Approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the south, this regional city is where you'll find SM North EDSA, SM City Sta. Mesa and EDSA Shrine. Amoranto Velodrome, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center and Immaculate Conception Cathedral are other popular places worth investigating for those who have time to spare.

If the weather looks good, head outdoors and discover Luzon's open-air markets. If the rain clouds roll in, fear not, Luzon is home to a number of popular craft workshops and history museums, guaranteed to keep you entertained and dry.

If you're not the kind of traveler to take holidays purely to shuffle between the hot tub and the bar, the San Rafael area offers plenty of outdoor-adventure activities like rock climbing and mountain climbing.

Even the best vacation can't go on forever, so when it's time go home, you'll find the nearest major airport in Angeles City, 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the northwest.
