It is some 210 miles from Tokyo, the national capital.

Lovers of nature travel through this area to see its diverse natural spaces. Discover what it's all about at Semi Onsen and Hijiori Onsen, 25 miles and 11 miles away from Shonai, respectively.
This region has some excellent ski slopes with tracks for people of all skill levels. Drive to Spring Valley Izumi Kogen Ski Area or Uenono Ski Area when the weather's right.
Be sure to visit either Hagurosan Ski Area or Mount Haguro, or both!
Hagurosan and Mogami Gorge are a few interesting places that you can visit in Tozawa-mura, which is roughly 7 miles away from Shonai. Another possibility is to spend a day in Mikawa-machi. It's about 10 miles from Shonai, and is where you can check out Heishindo Former Kazama Family Residence and Chidō Museum.
Approximately 10 miles to the northwest of Shonai is Mikawa, a regional hotspot which is home to Dewanoyuki Sake Brewery Museum, Yunohama Onsen and Teacher Atoku's House. Don't head back until you've also gone to Shonai Mikawa Road Station and Chidokan.
