Sleepless in Virginia!
Posted Feb 4, 2017
Pros: clean large suites. Nice TV.
Cons: lots of them! The major one is the totally helpless and unhelpful staff -- annoyed at having to answer even the simplest question of a tired arriving traveler. And totally useless at solving the heating problem in our assigned room. The HVAC unit is 2 feet from the foot of the bed, in the large suite. Ours was groaning like a tractor on and off all night, waking us frequently. The next morning, anticipating our 2nd night, we asked if there was another room. The bored and listless desk clerk looked at her computer and said there was only one and it was a handicapped room. To her annoyance we asked what that meant. She said it had a handrail in the shower and it was on the quieter side of the building. Well - that's fine, can we see it. She sighed and wordlessly and slowly led us to the room and let us in. It looked fine, so I turned on the heat to see if it was working. Nothing. No heat. And no interest from the clerk in getting help. Just standing in the door ignoring us. So we gave up, kept our room, shut off our heat, and slept better with an extra blanket.
The second major "con": we had paid $20/night extra in advance for the breakfast-included deal. One glance at the dismal breakfast in the morning and we headed for Starbucks. Forget-about-it!
Minor cons: awkward access to the entrance, requiring our GPS to find. Creepiest hallway carpet design ever. Room $40 more expensive than alternative high-rated Rt 495 hotels.
