The Greek Orthodox monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai (called Jabal Musa or Moses Mountain by the Arabs) is located at the very place where God appeared to Moses in the Burning Bush, beneath the Mount of the Decalogue (Exodus 31:18). This is the oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery, with a history that can be traced back over seventeen centuries. I didn’t go to St. Catherine. We stayed in Dahab and went to the blue hole, blue lagoon, Ras Abu gallum, three pools and traveled to Castle Zaman. All places were AMAZING.

Most of the monastery is off limits to the public, but the small chapel is reason enough to visit. It is hung with over 45 ornate silver lanterns and chandeliers, and the medieval icons are spectacular. No photos allowed inside.
