Scandinavian design has its home in this area of central Stockholm, which is filled with cool shops, museums and restaurants.

SoFo has become a pilgrimage site for the world’s trendsetters, who explore its laid-back streets in search of everything cool. With a name that mimics New York and London’s SoHo, this Stockholm neighborhood is heir to a tradition of hipster havens. Window-shop or browse available goods for inspiration to remake your home and wardrobe in the image of the Scandinavian-chic aesthetic visible everywhere.

Start an exploration of SoFo in Nytorget Square, its bustling heart, which comes alive with outdoor bars, especially on warm summer nights. Visit SoFo’s biggest landmark, the Katarina Kyrka. The church has experienced successive fires and rebuilding and has an incredibly peaceful graveyard and park. Get inspired to take some pictures on vacation and at home at the Centrum för Fotografi, which hosts six shows a year celebrating photography.

In summer, visit Vitabergsparken for people-watching and outfit inspiration. Come in winter for some of the city’s best sledding.

After sunset, join locals as they head into popular venues such as the Mosebacke, which has a theater as well as a club. For a wilder experience, take advantage of the midnight sun by partying all night at Lilla Baren, which hosts a DJ nightly.

SoFo is located on Södermalm Island just south of Gamla Stan, close to the center of Stockholm. Get here from Stockholm’s Central Station in about 10 minutes by car or 15 minutes by public transportation. Walk from Gamla Stan in about 30 minutes. Several tram and subway connections make it easy to travel to the neighborhood and explore the city.

Visit SoFo on the last Thursday of the month for the neighborhood’s beloved SoFo Nights, when shops stay open late and the whole area takes on an almost carnival-like atmosphere.
