Home to one of the most respected universities in Taiwan, Gongguan is a thriving commercial neighborhood packed with stores and malls. Its night market maintains a lively pace into the evening, lighting up the streets with neon signs and stalls with all types of exotic treats. Visit Gongguan to glimpse the rich heritage and traditions of Taipei in this eclectic and important district.

Stroll through the busy streets in the heart of Gongguan, stopping to view the items on display in the shops. As you walk, you’ll notice a few intriguing landmarks, such as Grace Baptist Church, with its modern redbrick façade and tall block tower. Stop at one of the many cafés in the northeastern corner of the district. Consider watching a concert or other event in the Riverside Music Café.

A little south, bring your kids to the water slides and rides of the Road Castle. Admire the views from Treasure Hill and visit the Treasure Hill Guanyin Temple. Check out the Museum of Drinking Water and amble along the Gongguan Waterfront Plaza. Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park has numerous interesting public artworks.

Along the eastern edge of the district is National Taiwan University. Look around the campus and speak with the students to understand what it’s like to attend college here. After dusk, venture into the adjacent Gongguan Night Market, which has more of a youthful vibe than the city’s other markets.

Gongguan lies on the southwestern side of Taipei, at the border with New Taipei City. It is just south of Shida and the Da’an District. Reach the area via Gongguan Station on the Taipei Metro or by bus to one of the many stops across the neighborhood.
