"Unbelievably spacious and modern 3-bedroom condo"
We stayed in a 3-bedroom condo unit at Crystal Sands. The defining feature is that it was unbelievably spacious. 2 of bedrooms had a king-size bed and 1 of the bedrooms had 2 queen size beds. Each bedroom had a walk-in closet. It was a 2-level condo with balconies on both levels, one of which had a hot tub. There was a large kitchen and, separately, a large bar area. The dining had seats for 8, but could have sat at least 12. There were 6 of us in this condo -- so we had a LOT of breathing room. :) Other than that, we got 1 garage parking space. The condo is directly on the beach, but the beach right behind is rocky and not very swimmable. You can walk on the beach to the swimmable Tamarindo beach, it is a 10 minute walk. There was a small grocery store within walking distance, but besides that, everything else was in the town of Tamarindo.

"Affordable and convenient to town"
The condos are spacious and offer all the amenities, albeit sometimes slightly damaged. The pools are small and very cold, but are usually not too crowded. The staff are very nice and friendly, but don't get involved in booking tours or anything. They will give you recommendations, but then you are on your own. There was also no phone in our condo, so make sure you have an international phone plan. The beaches are about a 10-15 minute drive away as is Tamarindo center. It is in a quiet, safe location.

"Cozy place close to Playa Grande"
The Inn was a nice, cozy place. It was undergoing some work in the common area when we arrived and also had a party that night. We didn't mind either, but it would have been nice to know about it before we checked in, as a courtesy. The room and bathroom were clean--with the room even having an AC. We had some problem with the bathroom drain being blocked from inside the pipes due to which we had to shower in a pool of accumulated water. But Natalie promptly addressed it when I told her about it. The breakfast was good: eggs, toast and coffee. They also had a muesli and fruit option. Matthew and Natalie were overall friendly hosts and we enjoyed staying at their inn.

"Solid landing spot for a couple days"
5 minutes from Main Street and the beach means it is close to the so-called action, but far enough. Small hotel with about 8 units. Clean. The owner lives onsite and she is way cool. Communal kitchen, complimentary use of beach towels. 2nd time in Tamarindo and I would have no issue staying here again.

"A Magical Place!"
We just got back yesterday from a 10 day stay. We're already planning our next trip back. Our expectations were exceeded at every level. The location, the facilities, the staff, the food, the weather and on and on. It was like living in the middle of tropical garden with beautiful foliage and exotic animals. If you can get a bungalow I HIGHLY recommend Number 4. It has the best view on the entire property (right on the beach) yet close enough to the pool and the restaurant/bar. You will not be disappointed!

"Can't Wait to Go Back to Cala Luna!"
We were initially worried about our choice as our driver zig-zagged down the road leading from Tamarindo proper to Cala Luna, but all fears were allayed (they were working on the road the day we left the area). The beautiful lobby, fresh beverage and scented towel, and warm greetings from the staff put all of our fears behind us. The property is surrounded by local forest. The pool was gorgeous. The bar and restaurant provided us with an assortment of fresh beverages and edibles (the breakfast buffet was a fun surprise as the kitchen staff rotates items daily). The hotel is a short walk down a forest path to the beach where every evening Cala Luna offers a comlimentary happy hour as you watch the sun set. Tamarindo is just a short 15 to 20 min walk either down the beach (depending on the tide) or down the road. We took advantage of Cala Luna's onsite spa for a relaxing hot rock massage. Both of us nearly fell asleep a couple of times as the breeze through the open air pavilion and the warmth of the rocks took the stress right out of us. We can't say enough good things about the staff! Whether it was the lobby, the bar, or the restaurant, we were greeted by name. Everyone was always checking on us to make sure we were taken care of. Many thanks to Carlos, Katherine, Rodolfo, Mario, Caroline, Liberty, Riugell, Angelo, and all of the others on-site that made us feel like celebrities! We can't wait to go back and try their villas next!

"A hotel that knows what hospitality means"
Disclaimer: technically I've never spent a full night at Arco Iris. I've booked a room for me and my girlfriend for 2 nights via Expedia, but due to an error (mostly likely mine), the hotel reservation indicated only 1 person could stay. We landed late that night and with the language barrier, all we could bargain for with the night shift personnel was a quick shower for two before we took off to stay somewhere else for the night; thinking that we would come back in the morning to sort things out. For me, that was a fair deal. But our new place is comfortable enough for us to decide not to waste any more of our time coming back for another uncertain bargaining. So, unlike the first night, we wrote the second night off as a total loss. We had a great pura vida time in Costa Rica and it got better when while boarding my plane back to California, I received an email from the hotel owner Richard. The gentleman reasonably offered to refund my second night. And I gratefully accepted it. So this review of mine is based on the 30+ minutes of showering and my experience with the hotel staff (from bottom to top). Although it did not go smoothly for us this first time, with Richard's hospitality attitude in mind, we're likely coming back to Hotel Arco Iris should we return to Tamarindo again.
