The best time to visit Tankavaara depends entirely on whether you prefer the summer's midnight sun and outdoor activities or the winter's snow, northern lights, and winter sports.

For those seeking the unique phenomenon of the midnight sun and a wide range of outdoor adventures, late spring and summer, particularly from June to August, are ideal. During these months, the temperatures are milder, and the continuous daylight allows for extended exploration of the surrounding fells and forests. Winter, from December to March, offers a completely different but equally captivating experience, great for couples or solo travelers looking for a magical, snowy escape. This period is characterized by heavy snowfall, frozen lakes, and the highest probability of witnessing the aurora borealis, or northern lights. Activities like snowmobiling, reindeer sleigh rides, and cross-country skiing are popular, with the Gold Village providing a cozy base for these excursions.
