The paradisiacal getaway of Nha Trang lies on the South Central Coast of Vietnam and beckons travelers with its 3.7-mile (6-km) white-sand beache and clear waters. Nestled against the Nha Trang Bay of the East Sea, the coastal city offers an abundance of aquatic adventures and a world of marine life and flourishing reefs to explore. In addition to its modern attractions, the city is home to a long history that dates back to the ancient Champa Kingdom, under which the area was known as Kauthara. Remnants of its Champa heritage and colonial influences can be found in breathtaking Champa structures, Buddhist temples, gothic churches, and the city's undeniably delicious cuisine. From scuba diving to spa treatments and journeys to the scenic countryside, there are countless choices for fun and discovery in Nha Trang.
Surrounded by mountains and water, Nha Trang is a beautiful seaside escape. The Nha Trang Bay is also home to several islands that protect the city's waters from rough breaks and make it ideal for vacations. Spend time discovering the wonders of Nha Trang and its neighboring islands.
Tran Phu Beach - The largest of Nha Trang's beaches, Tran Phu beach is easily accessible from just about anywhere in the city. The pristine promenade of Tran Phu Street runs alongside it and is lined with resorts, chic restaurants, and popular nightclubs and bars. Relax on Tran Phu's white sands, or enjoy a swim in the turquoise waters of Nha Trang Bay.
Hon Mun - Hon Mun, or Ebony Island, is an idyllic island situated in the south of Nha Trang Bay. The Hon Mun Marine is a protected area of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the island itself is considered one of the biggest aquariums in the region. Venture to the southeast coast to see the towering ebony cliffs and caves after which Hon Mun is named, and spend time diving or snorkeling to discover a world of coral, fish, and marine life.
Hon Tre - The island of Hon Tre, also known as Bamboo Island, is the biggest island in Nha Trang Bay. Accessible from Nha Trang via boat or the Vinpearl Cable Car, Hon Tre is home to the sprawling resort and amusement complex of Vinpearl Land. The complex features a spa retreat, golf courses, a waterpark, and a cultural theme park. On the north side of Hon Tre lies the breathtaking Bai Tru Beach, which is blessed with gentle waves and abundant aquatic scenery.
The Cham temple of Po Nagar is one of Nha Trang's most famous attractions. Built between the 8th and 11th centuries, the historic Hindu complex is most famous for its incredible towers and large statue of the goddess Yan Po Nagar. Long Son Pagoda, or Chua Long Son, is another landmark nestled in the foothills of Trai Thuy Mountain. The Buddhist temple features an 80-foot (24-m) statue of Gautama Buddha and Taoist architecture from the early 20th century. For views of the city, hop aboard the Vinpearl Cable Car, a 10,892-foot (3,320-m) gondola that connects Nha Trang and Hon Tre Island over the bay.
Lush mountains, sandy beaches, and sprawling countryside set the scene for the many experiences to be had in Nha Trang. Every 2 years during the summer, the city hosts the Nha Trang Sea Festival, which celebrates the natural beauty of the region and the rich culture of Vietnam. Immerse yourself in an authentic slice of Nha Trang and Vietnam by venturing out of the city and getting to know the rural villages and farmers that dot the countryside. Scenic boat journeys up the Cai River take you to riverside towns where you encounter local craftsmen who make traditional textiles and goods by hand. For relaxation closer to the city, step aboard a traditional boat on the Nha Trang Bay and explore the islands just off the coast, or indulge in an atmospheric sunset meal on the water. Discover the majesty of Nha Trang's aquatic landscapes with a visit to the National Oceanographic Museum of Vietnam, whose detailed exhibits showcase over 20,000 live and preserved marine specimens.
