“The Utopia River Retreat was just what we needed after 3 nights camping out in Big Bend. The cabin we stayed in (Kickapoo) was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed (cooking utensils, bath towels, linens). The grounds were peaceful and scenic and had a nice swimming pool and volleyball net as well as riverfront access. The house feels like a living museum, and the hosts are incredibly generous for sharing such an extraordinary collection of American cultural and historical treasures with their guests. “it’s more like staying at a fancy cabin at a park than it is staying at a resort, but if you come to hike and enjoy peace and quiet, you’ll love it just like we did. The only problem we had was there was no staff available, and we had no signal to call anybody, but once we figured out how to make the Wi-Fi work, it was fine.. just be aware, if you’re expecting fine dining and a spa day, you will be disappointed. This is rustic, out in the country, and you’re pretty much on your own.”
