TO COMMEMORATE THE BATTLE OF ETHANDUN FOUGHT IN THIS VICINITY MAY 878 AD WHEN KING ALFRED THE GREAT DEFEATED THE VIKING ARMY, GIVING BIRTH TO THE ENGLISH NATIONHOOD.

"Was our first time here, we stayed in the Pod named The Nave - the location is superb, so peaceful and quiet - no traffic or noise at all, we had a lovely time, the log burning hot tub was lovely, endless supply of wood, the pod was very comfy too, we stayed for 3 nights, was the best location we have ever stayed in, the host was always on hand for any issues. Very convenient, as it’s cross the road from the train station, also it’s very central. the staff couldn’t do enough for you, they went out of their way to make sure you had a good stay. The bedrooms are a little tired so could do with a little TLC. Would happily stay here again."
