We booked The Manger for a week's holiday but left after just one night. The listing describes the garden as enclosed, but also says it's not fully dog-proof due to the hedging, and makes no mention of close proximity to grazing cattle. Had this been clearer, we wouldn't have booked with our rescue dogs.Within five minutes of letting one of our dogs into the garden, he got through into the adjacent cattle field and was running amongst the herd. It was a heart-stopping experience, and we did not feel we could responsibly continue our stay.We also found the property to be grubby, with a significant number of flies throughout, which felt unhygienic. The shower pressure was extremely poor and the bedroom became uncomfortably hot.We contacted the owners immediately to explain why we were leaving. Following the complaint process, no refund was offered; instead, the booking agent offered a 150 goodwill voucher towards a future stay.Paying almost 2,000 for a one-night stay was incredibly upsetting. We had also paid for the insurance options offered at booking, received no refund, and then had the additional cost of arranging alternative accommodation at short notice. The accommodation we found afterwards was, in our opinion, of a much higher standard and cost around half the price, leaving us feeling that The Manger represented poor value for money. This is simply our experience, but I hope it helps future guests (especially dog-owners) make an informed decision.
