Bridgeland
Appreciate a distinct village feel and many attractions. You won’t go far without finding something that’s appealing to family members.

In the northeast sector of the city of Calgary, visit Bridgeland, which has an energy that makes it a sought-after location for residents and tourists. The residential community, along with adjoining Riverside, is bounded by the Bow River and has excellent hiking trails. Walk this pedestrian-friendly area to appreciate its family offerings.

One of Canada’s largest zoos is a major attraction, located on St. George’s Island and the mainland next to it. At the Calgary Zoo you’ll find over 1,000 animals from Canada and other countries.

Another popular spot, 31-acre (12-hectare) St. Patrick’s Island, has the downtown in clear view yet seems completely separate. Spend time next to lazy river channels, go on a nature walk or attend one of many events that occur at the amphitheater.

With its flat terrain, the city is noted for walking and biking. One of the highlights is Tom Campbell’s Hill natural park. The 44-acre (18-hectare) park is a habitat for diverse plants and animals, with a stunning view of the city across the river. Explore other natural areas in the community such as Deerfoot Trail in the east and a portion of Edmonton Trail to the west. Deerfoot spans the entire length of the city. Because these trails are in urban areas, it’s easy to take a break at a restaurant or café.

Spend time at a public park inspired by young people, the 4 Avenue Flyover park. The space under a bridge includes a rain garden, art, play areas and a plaza. Another must-see is the TELUS Spark science center, where families can get involved with interactive displays and watch science movies in the center’s theater.

Bridgeland-Riverside has come a long way since its early days when the neighborhoods were known as Germantown and Little Italy. The combined towns provide enough activities to keep family members entertained. Fly to Calgary on national or international airlines or travel to the city by car from any direction.

This is a very nice hotel by the airport. It had many amenities and it’s close enough to downtown area by car or uber. We have stayed here a few times and it’s a great value.
