After you've covered all the terrific sights in Honduras, there's plenty more to discover in the surrounding area. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your luggage in the trunk and get out on the open road. We've come up with some drives we're confident you'll enjoy:

• You'll find Playa Dorada and lots more intriguing attractions in Puerto Plata. From Honduras, it's about 110 miles away.
• Your next stop? Punta Cana, which is around 110 miles away. Bavaro Beach is one local draw card you really shouldn't miss.
• Make your way to La Ensenada Beach for a day out in nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just sit and unwind. From Honduras, it's approximately 130 miles away.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Dominican Republic, then you may need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be allowed to rent a car. You should also note that if you do need an IDP, it won't be valid on its own. You'll need to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental matches the name on your license and passport. A few other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be at least 25 in most places to rent a car. If you're younger, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the fine print before you drive off the lot. With rental cars, you usually can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or on off-road areas with a rental vehicle.
