There are lots of things to see and do in Miami, but venture farther afield and you'll find even more magic. Pick up a set of wheels and you can wander around the surrounding area at your own speed. Add these fantastic places to your travel schedule:

• Brisbane is approximately 50 miles from Miami. Popular sights like Suncorp Stadium deserve to be at the top of your list here.
• Your next stop? Make it Sunshine Coast, which is around 100 miles away. Hastings Street is one local highlight you shouldn't miss.
• Find your way to Jetty Beach to feel grounded in nature. Take a picnic to enjoy or just chill out in the fresh air. From Miami, it's 160 miles away.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Australia, then you may need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country to be allowed to rent a car. Also consider that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental matches the name on your driver's license and passport. A few other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be at least 25 in most places to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Make sure you read the fine print before getting behind the wheel. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on certain types of rugged terrain with a rental vehicle.
