Car Rental Ortigia

After you've ticked off the amazing sights in Ortigia, there's a lot more to see in the surrounding area. Grab the keys to a rental car, stow your bags in the trunk and take to the open road. We've pulled together some road trips we're confident you'll love:

• Catania is about 35 miles from Ortigia. Popular tourist spots like Catania Cathedral deserve to be at the top of your list here.
• Why not enjoy the best of Reggio Calabria too? Major sights here include National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. Reggio Calabria is about 75 miles from Ortigia.
• Get out into the great outdoors and take in the serenity at Mondello Beach. You'll find it approximately 130 miles from Ortigia.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Italy, then you may need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. Also consider that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other things to note to rent a car internationally are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or older in most places to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles available to rent.
• Driving limitations: Make sure you read the fine print before getting behind the wheel. Typically, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on certain types of rugged terrain with a rental vehicle.
