The Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa

The Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa

10/10 Excellent
"The stay at the hotel was very nice, in quiet rooms, decorated in a style out of the 80’s, complete with a rotary dialed phone! The property has views onto the bay directly in front of you, which were lovely, and seating for outside viewing as well. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms were small but adequate. We enjoyed eating breakfast in the restaurant as well. Dinners were also eaten in the restaurant, and the staff members were super sweet, with the exception of the head hostess/waiter who was pretty rude. Whether she didn’t know etiquette or merely had no idea of proper behavior, we were very displeased with her service. And it appeared as if the waiters and waitresses were afraid of her as well. She was very harsh. The food was lovely though and we sloughed off the distraction by her, but it was not appreciated!"

"Stunning location and very peaceful. Bed and, just as important, pillows extremely comfy! A lovely old building lovingly restored and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast delicious! Would certainly stay again. I was in the Skye room with a sea view."

"Had a delightful two night stay in this wonderful B&B with the most fabulous hosts Jan and Daz who made the visit extra special. The peaceful extensive garden with enchanting secluded spots to read , relax and enjoy the views add to the charm . Staying here is a memorable experience and one we would love to repeat. A few minutes walk to the Oyster Bar and Restaurant and to the ferry to Easdale make it's situation perfect."

"Beautiful setting along a long single track. Lovely grounds. Huge rooms, quite dated but clean with nice views. We had Matthews 4 course meal which was nice but quite expensive. Straight forward breakfast. Guest lounge, looking towards Loch. Small tv in room."

The ultimate secluded Holiday Cottage

The ultimate secluded Holiday Cottage

8/10 Good
"Tigh Beg is a complete one-off. The location and setting of the cottage is just perfect. Days spent on the patio, watching the sea, hearing the birds and basking in the tranquil setting just pass by effortlessly. Seals, otters, sea eagles, buzzards and sea birds frequently join you throughout the day, along with wonderful birdsong from all the trees and shrubs surrounding you. The property is well equipped for 4 people staying and is in generally very clean and tidy. Having the porch with dishwasher is a bonus as you are remote and need to bring plenty of supplies and cook a lot of the time. Nearby Oban is charming and offers all you will need for shopping and fresh food. Small gripe would be the lack of cover or shade on the patio which is full sun for most of the day. Thoroughly recommend!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Carsaig?
The best area to stay in Carsaig is directly within the village of Carsaig itself, particularly near Carsaig Bay, as it serves as the primary hub for visitors exploring the Carsaig Arches and the wider southern coast of Mull. This area is characterized by its remote, rugged coastal landscape and limited facilities, offering a truly secluded experience. The village consists of a small cluster of cottages and a pier, with the main draw being access to the coastal path leading to the Carsaig Arches. It's an ideal choice for adventurous solo travelers or couples who appreciate being surrounded by nature and are looking for a base for hiking and wildlife observation. For those seeking a slightly less remote experience but still wanting to explore Carsaig, staying in the larger village of Bunessan, about an hour's drive away, is a practical alternative. Bunessan offers more amenities like a shop and a few places to eat, making it a good option for couples who prefer easier access to provisions after a day of exploring the Carsaig area.
When is the best time to go to Carsaig?
The best time to go to Carsaig is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October, when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. These months offer comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the coastline, with fewer crowds than the peak summer months. The wildflowers are in bloom in late spring and early summer, and the autumn colors are striking in September and October, providing excellent opportunities for photography and scenic walks. For travelers who enjoy wildlife spotting, these periods are particularly rewarding. You're more likely to see various bird species, seals, and potentially even dolphins or porpoises along the coast.
