A street with buildings, a car, and mountains in the background.
A building facade with multiple flags, a balcony with flowers, and detailed frescoes.
A historic church with arched windows and a cross on the facade.
A narrow street with stone walls, a small canal, and colorful buildings.
A wooden signpost with directional arrows and a house-shaped top.

Explore the churches and markets of the historic center and whoosh down the slopes of varying difficulty in the ski complex.

Cavalese is a ski resort and place of cultural intrigue in the midst of snowy peaks. The commune is the principal hub of culture and history in the Fiemme Valley. Visit the old town’s quaint landmarks and zoom down the resort’s snowy runs.

See the red-tiled rooftops as you wander through quaint alleys between the houses of the old town. Gaze up at the crenellated bell tower of the Church of San Sebastian and peruse arts and crafts shops and wine bars.

Access the ski area via an 8-person gondola lift cabin. A previous cable car was destroyed by a low-flying U.S. fighter plane in 1998.

Zoom down the slopes of the Cavalese Ski Area in the Alpe Cermis zone. Try the two tricky black slopes and the five red slopes. In total, Cavalese contains 14 of Val di Fiemme’s 123 runs and 10 of its 60 ski lifts.

Take a ski guide of picturesque areas, such as the Forest of the Violin. Marvel at the excellent views of the dense forest, from where hazel spruce wood was sourced for for making Stradivarii violins. Embark on a cross-country ski through 93 miles (150 kilometers) of marked terrain.

Purchase a pass allowing use of Val di Fiemme’s other ski areas. Rent equipment for skiing, snowboarding and sledging from most resorts. The highest lift is at about 8,500 feet (2,600 meters). Much of the terrain is above the tree line.

Enjoy the lively après-ski ambiance at one of the resort’s pubs or the main disco. Relax with a movie at the cinema. In summer, explore the valleys and undulating hills by horse, bike or on foot.

The commune is in the center of northern Italy’s Fiemme Valley. Fly to Bolzano’s domestic airport and drive southeast for 25 miles (40 kilometers) to reach Cavalese. Innsbruck Airport in Austria, a 2-hour drive north, is the nearest international transportation hub.

Cavalese has a charming old town and a popular ski resort area with varied slopes.
