Hotel specific: the room was larger than expected. Two complimentary bottles of water were provided. The location was right on Portage. The breakfast was a free hot, plated breakfast which included a beverage, which was a nice surprise. There is a pizza place and liquor store next door. Room specific: The shower water pressure was outstanding. The bed was comfortable. The drapes kept the room pitch black. Hotel specific: the outside of the room could have been cleaner and less shabby. Check-in is outside of a bar entrance, so checking in with small children might be awkward. Also, check-in and the rooms are not in the same building, so if unaware, you can unpack everyone/everything only to have to pack up again to go to the room. Summer, ok; winter, no thanks. Claiming the free breakfast in the restaurant has to be done via voucher provided on checkout, which is not super clear. As it's a free, served breakfast, we didn't have the option to tip the servers as we didn't have cash. Room specific: The remote for the tv was not the original cable remote so couldn't navigate the guide to find out what's playing. The drain in the tub was obstructed leading to pooled water in the shower. While there was a smell of smoke when we got in the room, we called the front desk and someone came immediately with air freshener, which helped. If you are allergic/asthmatic though, I'm not sure if that would help. A/C did not work. Stains on the bedspread.
