Nice weekend getaway
Enjoyed the house. Zero cell service but WiFi was good, cute house. Unfortunately, did not have time to use the hot tub, but we did check it out and it was clean and warm. My only issue was the well water. It is stinky, but common for that area. Just take bottled water.

Not well maintained
On arrival, the bush at the main porch entrance that you have to go though is overgrown. I had to dodge around it to get up the stairs. Property management sent an email or text (I can’t remember) with Wi-Fi instructions and they weren’t right. There was a different router and password for this property on a piece of paper tucked away on the kitchen counter. Hot tub had dirt in it. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The water was yellow and smelled bad. All the closest are full of stuff so you can’t really use them if you want. The drawers in the bedrooms have trash in them. There’s trash under the refrigerator, under the night stands etc. The night stands had a coat of dust on them. The property sent an auto generated message asking about cleanliness and when I responded to it, it came back as undeliverable. The house is either on well water or had a really bad hard water problem and it shows everywhere with real bed yellow staining. The property location is nice. The dock/porch on the river are nice to sit on, just know there is a road just on the other side of the river that is heavily trafficked. I can confidently say I wouldn’t recommend this property and I won’t be returning to it.

Cozy, But That Water!
While the photos online made the cabin and furnishings appear newer, the cabin was cozy, well-stocked, comfortable and well-furnished. Our only serious complaint, and the reason we would not return, is the water. The water had such a high iron content that I could not even stand to brush my teeth with it. After washing my hands or showering, I smelled like rusty metal the rest of the day. If there was something that could be done to improve the water quality, the cabin would be a sweet retreat.

Wonderful cottage in a quaint valley. Quiet neighborhood except for the traffic on the two lane road on the opposite side of the river. The house was equipped with everything you would need for a week or weekend stay.

House on the River
Listing is not accurate- HOT TUB. - did not work, fireplace did not work, fire-pit by the river was great but no where to sit - we could have brought chairs if we would have known. Water - reviews say a bit of mineral in water - very incorrect- very high mineral content lime I didn’t want to bathe or brush my teeth or make coffee we went back into town to buy bottled water for all these. It was dusty/cobwebs- old blankets just thrown into closets. Just kinda weird- oh and the neighbor came over while we are sitting down for dinner to tell is to move one of our cars because the UPS man comes flying down the road - mind you it’s Saturday night. Not a horrible experience but sounded much nicer on the listing.

Not bad, could be better.
The Good: Overall the property was in good condition, rustic of course, but exactly what you would expect in a nice comfortable, up in a hollow mountain location. All surrounding properties were well maintained and you always felt safe. Everything was in working order and the rental was well stocked. A nice place to stay overall. The Bad: There is a rodent problem. Droppings were in the kitchen utensil drawers and in the lower kitchen cabinets. Droppings were also found in the forward bedroom on the comforter. Not something you ever want to see but an older home, down in a hollow, not lived in full time... it can happen. Not a show stopper but preventable and easily taken care of. Other things that needed attention was the overflowing gutter on the back of the house, a board on the deck that curled up when dry causing a tripping problem. It also laid flat when wet exposing a screw that revealed another safety concern. The kitchen faucet sprayer doesn't work. Easy, low cost fixes that will help improve the next renter experience. Hope this helps.

Great visit!
Visited son and daughter at WCU. Great location and house was nice. Only issue was neighbor across the street. He was out in the yard with a flashlight when my son came to visit and shined the light in my son’s eyes to the point he had to stop and and ask the man to turn it off so he could see to turn in the driveway. Never seen the man again.

Enjoyed our short stay!
We wanted a quick getaway for a couple of days so this was a great option for us. Plenty of room for all of us. Property was clean for the most part. There was a little dust on light fixtures and behind doors. The house has “hard” water so the sink and baths were stained up and water had a bad smell. Not sure if that can be fixed with a filter or not. We appreciated that the rooms had TV’s, there was free WiFi, linens were included, they had most everything you needed in kitchen for cooking/eating, and they provided dish soap, dish rags, hand towels, toilet paper, and paper towels. It was well stocked. The hot tub was nice but did have the hard water odor as well. The chlorine did help tone down the smell some. It is above the river so you have to go down stairs to get to and from but they are sturdy and safe. The dock is nice to sit and watch the water flow by or fish. It is very close to the road so there is a lot of road noise. Overall, we’d rent it again.

Cute & Rustic
We enjoyed out stay. We enjoyed our coffee on the back porch in the mornings and a little hot tub dip morning and night. We brought our own fire wood for a bonfire and cooked over it too! Close enough to downtown Sylva and we drove to High Falls Waterfall too! Over great stay.

Peace and quiet
Other than the deck and deck chairs being in need of repairs, (deck boards were loose in places, chairs were wobbly and seemed unsafe to sit in) it was a very nice place. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms good size, plenty of seating. Bring your own drinking water for cooking though, lots of iron in the water, it is discolored and smells slightly.

Cozy cottage on busy road
Although we were excited for the trip, we were not aware we were going to be against a busy highway. We could hear traffic all hours of the night. The home was not clean to our standards. Didn’t feel that the disclosure advertised the surroundings or busy road. Would not stay here again.

Weekend Getaway
The house was clean, the property was quiet. As others mentioned, it is located across the creek from a busy road, but that seems to be factored in to the price. We didn't catch any noteworthy fish, though not for lack of trying, and the hot tub was green. The firepit was pleasant and though there were neighbors nearby, we couldn't see or hear them from the back porch.

Quaint Cottage
Enjoyed a quick get away with the family and a couple of their friends. This cottage has everything you need to relax. The beds were comfortable and kitchen well equipped. The WiFi was meh, but we had 6 people trying to use it at the same time. We thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub. There was as many said road noise from 107, but it was quiet at night. There’s little light pollution if you love to star gaze. Close to Cashiers and Highlands.

Nice place - pet friendly!
This was a cute cottage. Location was nice, but you can hear the traffic as mentioned in other posts - even inside. The water is terrible. Very high in iron. So much so, you smell like iron when you get out of the shower. We had to go buy bottled water. Hot tub and fire pit were fun. Good central location to many attractions.

Not worth the money at all
I came to Along the River with high hopes – they were dashed. The stay was relatively expensive (I know that it was peak season for the leaves, but still) and just was not worth it. The location is reasonably nice (semi-private and pretty), but right across the river is a road. I had seen the road from the aerial photo – what I didn’t see was that it was the main drag for the area. I’ve been near Interstates that were less noisy (that continued throughout the stay). The physical (frame, deck, etc.) was in good repair. However, the cabin overall needs a deep clean (there was dust everywhere), and the kitchenware was filthy and the cookware needs to be thrown out and replaced. Then, we discovered just HOW MUCH iron there was in the water (too much to drink and cook with comfortably, bring some water with you if you come) – also, be aware that washing light clothes in iron water will turn them brown (making the washer/dryer not too useful). There were issues with the hot tub (we were able to resolve since we had had a hot tub and knew how to use the chemicals). Be aware that there was NO cell service (Verizon or AT&T, don’t know about Sprint), the Internet was both slow and VERY intermittent. We ended up leaving a day early just to not have to deal with it anymore. It just was not worth the price we paid.
