Dog-friendly cabin with park & beach access - fireplace & firepit

Mendocino Dunes - Dune Flower

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

The Dune Flower, one of four cabins in the Mendocino Coast Dunes Retreat complex, is a great place for a small group to stay, though it can also be rented together with the other three houses for a fun-filled group vacation! This cabin has a charming nautical theme, a clean and comfortable design, and a dog-friendly attitude, so everyone will love it here! Up to four people are may stay in this one-bedroom, one-bathroom home which features a full-size bed in the bedroom and a comfortable fold-out futon. Feel free to bring your dogs to enjoy the vacation with you, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply. With a delightful nautical theme, you will feel very welcome in the living area, which comes complete with a TV, a DVD player, free WiFi access, and a cozy gas fireplace. There is no full kitchen, but the kitchenette offers a mini-fridge with a freezer, a microwave, a toaster oven (but no regular oven), and a small two-burner hot plate so you can whip up a snack easily.

In the grassy backyard area, privacy fencing will keep you separate from the other cabins. A nice deck area with seating and a firepit nearby is a great place to sit in the evening, telling stories, relaxing in the cool sea air, and roasting a few marshmallows on the fire. This cabin would be a lovely place for a small family or a few friends to spend a nice vacation, though it would also be wonderful to rent all four cabins at the same time and invite all your loved ones! With the beach nearby, the beauty of nature surrounding you, and towns within a short drive away, you may never want to leave. With a fun theme, this ship-shape cabin is a comfortable place to stay during your vacation!

Located about seven miles north of Fort Bragg, this home is just over half a mile from the sparkling ocean; though if you want easy beach access, you may want to drive to MacKerricher State Park, because the walk from the cabin over the dunes is a bit hilly.

THINGS TO KNOW

Beautiful and quaint but not when it’s raining
The house was adorable and perfect for our relaxed little family of four and fur kids. We are easy going and really don’t need too much. With that said it was a rainy weekend and the walk from our vehicle to the house was extremely wet, socks, shoes, bottom of pants soaked. A nice little stepping stone walkway would be awesome. But unlike the rest of my family I packed rain boots and didn’t have an issue. The area was serene the hike to the beach definitely a crows mile, we didn’t ever end up making it there as the kids gave up and we turned around and ended up driving to the beach. We definitely would stay there again.

My single vacation
Cabin itself was clean, a couple of cobwebs. Outside patio, chairs, windows, and skilights could have been cleaner. Futon was really uncomfortable to sit on. Marking to find cabin needs to be more clear in directions. Overall, nice for short stay.

Cute place - dog friendly
This place was cute but I should have paid better attention when booking. Bed was full size. Bathroom door was a flimsy thin plastic accordion door that didn’t latch all the way…didn’t leave much to the imagination. Quite a few spiders and spiderwebs on walls and low ceiling around the bed. Also checkout was pretty early… 10 am. On a better note: fridge/freezer worked great, yard area was very nice, internet worked well, it was very quiet, they provided fans for air movement/white noise at night. Probably wouldn’t return but it wasn’t too bad.

The house is in the rear. The housing showing on the website is not the one rented!? We enjoyed our stay. It was a lot like camping.

Where is the beach.
You can’t walk to beach. Bed was smaller than a double and hard as a rock. Patio furniture was badly rusted and not inviting. TV broken no cable. Very clean but many things were worn out. Too much money for what we got.

Dune Flower
My spouse and I, along with our two dogs. stayed a couple of nights at Dune Flower cottage. We had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. It was cozy and very clean. There was a nice lawn to play with our dogs. The wifi was great so we stayed connected. There are beautiful dunes to explore behind the cottages but no dogs allowed in the dunes and it is quite a trek if you plan on getting to the beach there. Hidden Beach is just up the road and a great place to take your dogs! We had a lovely time in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. I would recommend these cottages located on a quiet lane.

a small cozy well decorated place in a very quiet neighborhood. a couple of notes: only has a hot plate, no laundry appliances and toilet is very short and small. not easy for tall people to use the toilet. I like the place other than the above comments. would use again if toilet was upgraded.

Life is a Beach!!
We had sunshine and we had rain and enjoyed all aspects of the beach and weather. Toured the lighthouse, did Trees of Mystery and the aquarium. Would have liked to have rented scooters, but could not find the place. An inhouse list provided by the host would be nice of things to do and GOOD restaraunts nearby, just a suggestion.

So close...
to the beach, and so close to being an adequate place to stay. Love the location, but not much else. With a few changes, this place could be amazing: put a queen bed because no couple can fit in that double, a freezer and an oven with a stovetop (there is room for it), clean the mold in the shower, and get some furniture that is comfy and not from the 70's without any support or cushion. Heads up to guests: I do not recommend and cannot imagine 4 adults in this place. It is much too small and the pull out is really uncomfortable and right next to the bathroom. The bed was also really tiny, especially if you're 5'8 and up, so my husband actually slept on the pull out while I slept in the bed. This place could be so great though! It is a shame. Take some of the clutter off the walls, lose the gross fishing net decor - it would be a cozy, awesome spot. Quaint and cozy does not have to mean old, dusty and cluttered. I hope that someone considers this advice. I rarely leave reviews, but the potential of this place made it too tough not to say something!

Dune Flower was great
We loved the fact that we could walk through the dunes to the beach. The dune walk is not totally easy, but we had the beach almost entirely to ourselves, probably because access takes some work. The only downside of Dune Flower is pretty limited cooking facilities.

Only real issue was the lack of fencing. The listing states privacy fencing which we assumed from the description and pictures meant "fenced in yard". Nope - just a panel of fencing between two cabins. Dogo's were not happy being on leashes all the time.

Cute cabin in the dunes
This cabin was perfect for a long weekend on the coast. Very minimal provisions, so if you plan on cooking bring things like olive oil, spices, and tin foil. The hot plate and toaster oven worked well and we were able to get by with no stove. There is no freezer in the mini fridge so pack ice in your cooler. If you don’t have dogs take the opportunity to walk the trail out in the dunes. Really cool views! The local management team was very responsive, as we had an issue with the on-demand water heater and they responded in a couple hours. Thanks for the great getaway!

We want to have a quick trip to the Fort Bragg with our daughter
A very cute cottage for two adults. We had reserved the cottage for 4 adults, only 3 could come, which was a good thing. There was a nice, very small bedroom for my husband and I, with our daughter sleeping on the couch/futon. There is no really extra room for a blow up mattress without walking on top of it. If you reserve this cute cottage for 4 adults, and it is for 2 couples, or two adults, and you are on planning on bring a blow up mattress you will be sorry. The cottage is much to small for that. The futon is too small for two adults to sleep on comfortably as well. Really a wonderful cottage for a couples get away.

Quaint, funky, private
This quaint, funky cottage was just the right size, price and location for our weekend getaway. We loved how it was tucked away from the hustle of town and the highway. Close enough to hear the ocean, and enjoy a hike across the dunes to the beach just out the back door. We appreciated that the house was dog friendly. It was a nice touch that there were dog bowls ready in the kitchen, because we forgot ours! It was also a nice touch that the fireplace was going when we arrived. It added to the cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, it is not very efficient at heating the house. It was set to 75 for hours and the thermostat read 53 before we went to bed. After leaving the heater on for over 24 hours, the house warmed up to about 65. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if it were just me and my husband, we had extra blankets. But, we had our little baby with us so we had to really bundle her up and put her next to the fireplace to sleep. The decor of the place is funky, beachy and welcoming. This mostly makes up for some of the rough and old finishes in the house. The bed and shower are old and very small, which was a challenge for my tall husband. But the bed was comfortable enough for us to sleep well. Lastly, I'll comment on the cleanliness of the house. Overall it seemed pretty clean when we came in. However, because of covid I brought my own disinfecting wipes to wipe the high touch surfaces, just in case, and I found the light switches by the front door had grime on them like they were never cleaned. There is also mildew on the caulking in the shower... All things considered, it was well worth the the reasonable price, and I would go back.

Cute and Quaint Home, Great Location
We loved our stay here, it is a pretty short walk through beautiful sand dunes to the beach, and is just far enough from Ft. Bragg to feel secluded and relaxing without being too inconveniently far from town to get food and things like that. It is a bit smaller than it looks in pictures, but feels super open so we didn’t mind the size.
