  • Buttle Lake is beautifully situated in the wilderness of Strathcona Provincial Park in the centre of Vancouver Island. When the water is low tree stumps of some areas of deforestation are uncovered. Whilst it is remote it is served by good roads which are required for logging transport. These roads are, mercifully, however very quiet. The campground is basic, pumped water & pit toilets, which in reality take it one stage from wild camping but that is as it should be in a remote area of natural beauty. Do not bother with your mobile phone here. Not a cat in hell's chance of a signal!! Great! #GreatOutdoors

Gold River has a super remote location, right in the middle of fantastic mountains. The motel has a mountain movie-like ambience for its setting. Very basic motel, cheap and cheery.

Such a value find! The room had beautiful view of mountains. The motel albeit being a bit old, was wonderful and clean. The staff were very accommodating. Check-in closes at midnight, but we were unsure if we would arrive by then. I called the place earlier in the evening and informed them about this. They sent us detailed instructions on how to check in ourselves. They also told me to call them anytime if I needed help. Free breakfast was also a nice bonus

The owners have been working on upgrading this property and it’s much more comfortable than in years past. This hotel is about the only option in town but the staff is great, accommodating, and really try. Continental breakfast is above average and nice for those early mornings.

Quiet getaway.

Nice and quiet ! There's a small creek at the side of the room and that's the only sounds I could hear , " a gurgling brook " , just perfect !

Great motel in Gold River. Very friendly staff. Met the owner, and the manager. They wanted to make sure we were happy. Great location next to a very nice pub with great food, a minute walk to tourist info and EV chargers, plus great trails for walking the dog. Very much enjoyed two nights here.
