This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The home is beautifully decorated and was very clean. It is also in a great location with nice beach access. The communication with the owners was beyond exceptional. They communicated well in advance with lots of information that was helpful for our overall trip as well as once we got there. Very, very responsive. The only reason for not giving a 5 star overall is that we had problems with the air conditioning. Two of the floors were not getting enough cold air to keep the bedrooms cool enough to sleep at night. And while the communication with the owner was great and responsive and he sent a repairman over and it got fixed on Thursday of the week we were there, it still left a few really rough sleeping nights for our friends on the trip with us as well as our kids. I think they potentially need a new AC unit. I just felt for 29,000 for the week's stay having a nice cool beach home every day of the week is an expectation not a luxury. If I hadn't paid so much I might not have been quite as upset. But, again, the owners are for sure the best I have ever dealt with and I am sure they will resolve any future AC problems. I booked this house for a 70th birthday celebration. We had 3 generations of family together. The house was spacious, comfortable and had amazing sunrise and sunset views. The pool and hot tubs were a big hit and all the bedrooms had a nice ocean view. The kitchen was easy to cook in and there was plenty of room for comfortable dining. The town of Duck is charming and the restaurants we tried were great. He provided us all the information we could have needed and more. He was also very attentive to every detail and we felt how eager he was to make sure we had a great stay. Two hot tubs for relaxing, one with an ocean view and the other steps from the pool. The top floor kitchen, dining and living areas with ocean view were terrific. In the mornings and evenings we hung out there and on the deck outside. More beach chairs and umbrellas than you would ever need, and plenty of bikes for the mile or so ride to downtown Duck, though we took plenty of walks to Duck, too. We can’t say enough about how fabulous our stay at Ocean Crest was. The house was immaculate and every last detail was thoroughly thought out. There were plenty of towels and everything we needed all week. The beds were so comfortable and plenty of room for multiple families to enjoy. The living space and kitchen were spacious and clean. There were many bathrooms as well as bathtubs (great for little ones). The view was incredible. The pool was heated and felt great. The ocean is really steps away with your own path. We truly felt at home during our stay. What a treat. They even provided extra trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper etc. This is the best house we’ve ever rented and we’ve rented many over the years.
