Wedged between a tall, rugged headland and the rocks of a neighboring stretch of sand, Nobbys Beach is a sheltered natural wonder for swimming and sandcastle building. It’s also dog-friendly, so expect plenty of locals enjoying the sea breeze with their pups. Use the beach as a stepping-off point for fantastic coastal walks in Port Macquarie.
Take your fishing gear to catch your own lunch around the rocks at Nobbys Beach. Or, simply explore the tidal pools as you stroll along the sand. Backed by dunes topped with lush greenery, it’s hard to realize the isolated natural setting is so close to town. Pack a picnic to enjoy on a a patch of sand you’ll have all to yourself.
For a change of scenery, access Flynns Beach via a short walk on a platform over the rocks. Also located between rocky headlands, this is a popular spot for beginner surfers to learn how to catch a wave. If you didn’t pack a picnic, eat at the surf club before or after your lessons. Both beaches are located along the Port Macquarie Coastal Walk.
Set out toward the southern endpoint of the walking trail, marked by the historic Tacking Point Lighthouse. You’ll want your camera for incredible views over the ocean, where it may be possible to spot dolphins and whales. Join a camel safari tour across Lighthouse Beach and visit Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, where the rainforest meets the sand.
Head in the northern direction to reach Town Beach. Check out the famous breakwall covered in graffiti art and take the kids to the playground or the skate park. As this beach is near the center of town, select from numerous restaurants, bars and shops. You’ll also find the region’s heritage on display at the Port Macquarie Museum.
Nobbys Beach has its own free parking lot, with access via a path and stairs down to the sand. Travel here in 10 minutes from the Port Macquarie town center.
