We expected a small room and no frills, but we were shocked by the shabbiness. The bathroom sink was coming loose; it sagged visibly, with an alarming gap between its back and the wall. The tub was set on a wooden platform, so that it was a couple inches higher than the floor.
And there was no fan in the bathroom, just an open window covered by a screen. And since neither the bathroom door nor the front door fit well, light came in around the frames at dawn.
Instead of a headboard on the bed, there was a long rectangle of what looked like plastic flooring material, which was attached to the wall with screws. I laughed at that one.
It was like spending the night in a rundown hunting lodge, one that had been divided into too many rooms. The bathroom was the most alarming part, however.
Two more things: the electrical outlet in the bathroom was up near the ceiling, while the shower head was so low that my wife and I (of average height) had to duck our heads to get our hair wet. Again, so awful it was kind of funny.
