Admire views of coastal and mountainous landscapes, take a boat trip to a Venetian castle and enjoy a leisurely stroll on a waterfront promenade.

The Port of Nafplio is the maritime entrance to Nafplion, a beautiful city that in 1823 became the first capital of modern-day Greece. Marvel at a beguiling Venetian architectural cityscape while wandering along the seafront. Delight in views of the natural landscape that frames the Argolic Gulf, dine at waterfront bars and visit an offshore stronghold.

This is a busy working port set in front of the postcard-perfect Old Town of Nafplio. Fishers come and go in their trawlers, passenger ferries depart on daytrips and boat owners moor up in luxury yachts. Gaze across turquoise waters toward mountains that rise from the interior of the Peloponnese peninsula. Look back to the Old Town and spot Acronafplia fort and Palamidi Fort perched high on hilltops.

On a rocky islet in the harbor is the 15th-century Bourtzi Castle. The Venetians built the castle to ward off pirates and it was once connected to the city’s defensive walls by metal chains. Since its foundation the castle has served as a prison, executioner’s residence and hotel. Catch a boat to visit this emblematic landmark and attend live music events.

Feel the sea breeze on your face as you stroll along the Arvanitia Promenade. This coastal esplanade clings to the foot of the city’s cliffs and remnants of the walls of Acronafplia fort. Stop to appreciate the enormity of the Five Brothers bastion. Sip on coffees, cold beers and glasses of wine at sea-facing bars and restaurants.

Continue on the promenade for about 15 minutes to reach Arvanitia Beach. Go for a swim or simply sit and appreciate the magnificent scenery. On the way to the beach you’ll pass a rock tunnel and the isolated Panagitsa Church.

The Port of Nafplio is one of many attractions to add to your Nafplion itinerary. A short walk away is Syntagma Square and museums such as the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio and Komboloi Museum. Free parking is available at the port.
