This was one of the best vacations to date. We stayed Royal Level and you won’t be disappointed. Private beach, private pools, private bars and restaurants. The grounds are clean and absolutely stunning. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The room was spacious and clean. Turn down service every night. Lunch and dinner at the Royal Level change nightly but the food was delicious and plentiful. We went to a few other restaurants on property and again the food was good and plentiful. At night there’s a pizza place and a taco place that make everything fresh to order…delicious as a night cap, after having some night caps. We are already planning our next trip!

We had 4 in our group and 3 got severe food poisoning half way in to our trip. The food was average at best but I would recommend no one eat their burgers EVER. Do not eat ANY food at the seafood place near the beach. Make sure you take lots of medications with you to treat all the GI illness you will encounter if you go here.

The resort itself was beautiful, clean and well maintained. Even though it’s an older resort, everything felt up to date. The room cleaning could be better and they could’ve provided more amenities. But their English isn’t great so it’s hard to communicate. The beach was gorgeous and lovely to swim in, with very little sargassum. We went as a family with an infant and we felt comfortable. There’s multiple pools that work for adults and children. The food at the buffet was pretty good with lots of variety but I wouldn’t recommend La hacienda restaurant as the food was quite bad. The service is also quite slow in the restaurants. I would stick with the buffets. Entertainment was present but could be better. Overall the resort was well worth its price!

The housekeeping was wonderful. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. There is always at least one buffet or restaurant open until 2 AM. The beach was so beautiful. We had a great time!!

Food was adequate. The seafood and Mexican restaurant was the best on site. I understand being in another country with a different language, but not very many people spoke English and was difficult communicating. I’ve been to another resort before and it wasn’t a problem. Very disappointing. I researched long and hard for a vacation spot to go to for my first international trip for my 50th birthday. I chose this resort. First day I got there. Our AC wasn’t working. I went to customer service and they said someone would be there to fix it. The handyman came to my room, got the air running for a few hours and it stopped again. I was there for 7 days. PAID FOR AN UPGRADED ROOM!! And this kept happening all week. After a few days of complaining they just blew me off. I hardly slept the whole time I was there because it was too hot. They told me there were no other rooms. Also our key card stopped working multiple times. I had to go to the front desk multiple times to have it reactivated. Between people in my room working on the air, and running back and forth for the key card, this totally ruined what was supposed to be a very special vacation for me. I don’t get a do over for my 50th. Because of that I would not recommend this resort to anyone!! They don’t care about guests. They just treat you like cattle. I’ve been to many resorts in many countries, including a previous trip to Punta Cana, and I had never had as bad an experience as I did at the Occidental. We had to switch rooms 3 times during our stay due to a broken AC then a gas leak (which thankfully my friend noticed or who knows what would have happened if we slept in that room… 30 min to pack our stuff and we were both coughing) that made my clothing in the drawers and in the suitcase reek of gasoline and I had to wash everything twice when I came back home. The staff is unfriendly, esp the kitchen staff, except for one Esteban and the landscapers who would give us free coconuts. The food is absolutely terrible and on multiple night barely edible. I ate nothing but bread, cheese and crepes the entire time. The drinks were the worst I’ve had in any resort and the entertainment was mediocre except for circus night. The morning of my flight back home, I woke up with travellers diarrhea and almost had to skip my flight to go to the hospital but I held it together for the pure sake of wanting to get th heck out of the DR. Such a shame because my last time here made me love Punta Cana so much but this resort made my last experience there terrible. The only good thing about this resort was the beach which was absolutely gorgeous and this resorts only saving grace.
